From The Eyes Of NBA Makeup Artist: First Day at NBA All Star

written by Connecticut / New York Makeup Artist

Call time for the first day was at 3:00pm, car service picked me up and brought me over to the Amway Arena. The first day I like to go over a little early to set up, talk with the ladies in the production office just to see if there were any changes, pick up a daily run down sheet, and  talk with wardrobe.
Make Up For Ever sponsored the makeup for our fabulous team thanks to Makeup Artist Debra Gutierrez. So after looking at the fashion selected by Niki Hall I went to the makeup room to meet up with my girls who arrived around 1pm. The girls help me set up my area then we had a quick meeting to go over the makeup looks and schedule.

The first day is always easy and quiet so after the event was over we all went out to Tier Nightclub. The party was presented by CIROC & CROWN ROYAL with special guests: Lebron, Melo, Chris Paul, Jermaine Dupri, Terrance J, & Dougie E. Fresh.

The makeup items that I selected from Make Up For Ever for the dancers to wear were:
Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick Satin Fuchsia #36,
Aqua Lip Lip Pencil in Fuchsia #16c
HD Blush Microfinish Cream in Fresh Pink #3
Aqua Cream in Golden Copper #12
HD Invisible Cover Foundation
HD Microfinish Powder

Arriving to Orlando Florida to work NBA All Star Weekend

written by Connecticut / New York Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis
I headed out to work NBA All Star Weekend 2012 on Thursday morning. Car picked me up from the airport, checked into the hotel, unpacked and I headed downstairs to grab a bite and of course order one of my favorites; a margarita. Maisha, head of hair for NBA All Stars met me in the lobby along with one of her girls, Falon.
Keenan Towns stop by and invited us to CIROC & Crown Royal “Ball So Hard” party one of the many parties that would take place that weekend. Such a gentlemen he brings me over a special Jose Cuervo margarita that he asked the bartender to make for me. Being that I am a tequila and champagne connoisseur that was definitely a top shelf drink..luved it.

On a Thursday afternoon the Grand Bohemian Hotel had a DJ outside the hotel kicking off NBA All Star Weekend. I luved it, the energy reminded me of being in New Orleans for Essence Music Festival. A proper way to greet the hotel guest as they arrive, all they needed now was two BA’s holding trays of champagne.

We walked over to the Amway Arena to pick up our credentials and to do a walk through of the makeup & hair room. Making sure that we had enough stations and lighting. Perfect timing because they were just setting the room up with everything that we would need for the weekend. Including lots of snacks and drinks to keep us energized for three long days.

After the walk through and talking with the girls in production about the daily run down I went to watch the rehearsal and to see my babies; NBA Fan Patrol. On stage was Ne-yo and Chris Brown so I was able to watch them and to meet Pitbull dancers. Very sexy girls and was now able to visualize the makeup look that I would do for this halftime show. Nayer wasn’t there so I didn’t get to meet her but I already knew the makeup look that I wanted to do on her. After rehearsal we left to enjoy Orlando.

Real Moms Strut At Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Heading to the Lincoln Center

written by Connecticut Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

I was very excited about being a part of the makeup glam squad that was brought in for STRUT Mom’s 1st Annual Fashion Show during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York. It was cool to do makeup on real women that look like me, my age and who are mothers versus the traditional young models who are her daughter’s age. The moms were professional career women, popular female bloggers, and soon to be moms.

The fashion show was hosted by Supermodel and cosmetics owner Iman, who is also a mother of two. I’m a mother of 2 teens and so I understands how hard it is to parent kids with a busy schedule as i travels a lot with her work. My support system is my husband, SKYPE and writing on my blog plays a big role when on the road with her family.
Backstage I was one of 10 makeup artists that gave these fashionable moms each flawless individual looks. My makeup area consisted of a full table of makeup goodies. Key items that all moms need for a full proof makeup look is what I packed my makeup kit with. One of my favorite items is Maya Water Facial Mist to hydrate and rejuvenate my overwhelmed moms. I wanted the moms to not look like they look everyday, so I gave them a glamxurious look to play up the moment. All moms need makeup items that are quick but will last all day so I selected L’OREAL Paris HIP Cream eyeliners, L’OREAL Paris Waterproof Voluminious mascara, and L’OREAL Paris Infallible 8hr leGloss. But an absolute must have that all moms need is concealer, so I selected one of my top concealers from ALCONE.
There were so many amazing highlights from STRUT: The Fashionable Mom Fashion Show but my favorite was getting to bond backstage with the gorgeous Iman who on this day wanted to not be a supermodel but a supermom. After a fun filled day Kelly and I went to grab a bite at Cafe Fiorello’s across the street from the Lincoln Center.

Mom’s Strut: Fashionable Mom Fashion Show during Fashion Week

Tomorrow morning at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week I am excited by being one of the many makeup artists doing makeup at The 1st Annual Fashionable Mom showing at Lincoln Center. The fashion show will be hosted by Supermodel Iman who is also a super mom. I was on-board as soon as I heard the title being a mom of two myself (a 19 year old daughter & 14 year old son) it was just a great way to pamper real mother’s. If anyone I understand how hard it is to be career woman who travel due to work, be a supported wife and a great mom. Remember how crazy last year was for me when I was living and working in New York and trying to be a parent and wife with my family being in New Orleans. Plus maintain our summer home in Florida. Now how I did it, hubby and I just did it, without a nanny, sitter, or personal assistants but with the help of Skype.

There will be a LIVE Twitter Party that will give up-to-the-minute updates on everything that is happening behind stage, on the runway and celebrity sightings. Plus a twitter party with a Twitterazzi Pit on the sidelines of the show for influential bloggers and tweeters to be active in the live chat that will be taking place throughout the event. And the event will be live streamed from Lincoln Center on multiple channels with iVillage.

It would be yummy if Tony Manero would stop by in strut with the ladies at the Lincoln Center.

I started my day first doing makeup at Donna Karan Fall 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week show at Cedar Lake. I knew that today I had to work fast and watch my time because I had to head over to Keva J swimwear look book shoot. Donna Karan show started at 2pm so I was able to leave at 1pm. The photo shoot was schedule at 2pm so I had to move fast.
Keva will be showcasing at Miami Fashion Week in July so she was doing all her marketing materials for that. I was very excited about working with Keva, we met 3 years ago at Miami Fashion Week and I luved her collections. The gorgeous and humble model that Keva selected was India Christin, I later finds out that she is the daughter of rapper Charli Baltimore. And her photographer of choice was the amazing Whalen Bryce.
