As a young girl, we grew up hearing “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.” Well, that something blue will be the new trend in 2016 for brides. Bright, bold cobalt blue will be seen more at weddings in the flowers, bridesmaids’ dresses, the brides’ shoes and even bright bold eye shadows.
At a recent bridal photo shoot I decided to play with NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Giove, a navy blue eye shadow that can be used on the lid for a smokey eye. Remember when wearing a strong eye you should keep the lip color very light so I selected a nude YSL lipstick and a nude Dior lipgloss. Brides your something blue doesn’t have to be hidden anymore, it can now be worn down the aisle.

This wedding was a little different because it was more of a Wedding Anniversary Celebration of 10 years for Susan & Stan. I was booked for the wedding but have been working with Susan and her girlfriends a lot both here in New York & New Orleans. So once Susan shared me with me the date I locked it in my books because I couldn’t miss it this time around. http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js_uacct = “UA-3446372-1”; urchinTracker();
I arrived in New Orleans on Friday morning met up with Susan to go over the details. So on Friday I enjoyed my time in New Orleans before turning in early. Saturday was definitely a magical day, I turned my room at the W Hotel French Quarter into my mini makeup room. Susan, Kecia and Miss Baley came up to get ready then took the shuttle bus over to Cafe Amelie. This beautiful in lush courtyard was a perfect place for this wonderful ceremony. After the celebration we went over to Kingfish for the after party for more drinks and celebrating.

On Saturday I went to Bedminster, NJ to do makeup for a New York model at the beautiful property at Trump National Golf Club. It was a 2 hour drive from Connecticut but with my no sense of directions it took me an extra 45 mins. I got lost a few times, pulled up to the wrong house…don’t ask, and I had to battle with a deer on the road, lol. So my start was a little exciting.
Because both Vanessa & I had really busy schedule we didn’t get a chance to do a bridal consultation. Vanessa was pleased with my work from what she saw as well Shida, one of her bridesmaid speaking highly of me. We did talk over the phone, Vanessa shared with me what she wanted to look like. After finally meeting her I knew that I didn’t want her to look trendy but more pretty. Because she’s a model she have worn so many runway makeup looks so I decided to play with soft champagne, browns, and pinks. Keeping her makeup look timeless & classic. Of course I used lots of waterproof makeup & stay all day products since she was having the ceremony outdoor.
What a nice spread for the wedding party

Everybody always forget the groom on the wedding day, put I knew my groom would need a little help, he is in New Orleans. If he partied like I think he did the night before then L’OREAL Paris Men Expert Eye Roller would be needed.

A winter bride, especially when there is a light snowfall, can be beautifully romantic and very fairy tale-esque. There is something elegant and magical about having a wedding amidst the natural beauty of an all-white winter with the decadence of fallen snow as a backdrop. To become this celestial winter bride, sparkle less, shimmer more and turn your winter makeup into a winter wonderland.
What’s not so fabulous is dreary and harsh winter light that can make any bride look less stunning in their pictures. Winter wedding makeup should be different from the make-up you would normally wear. To pull off that classic radiant winter makeup look it is important you have it professionally done.
Last minute touch up’s before pictures
My Darien, CT bride wanted classic makeup on her wedding day.
First, start with a luminous foundation like L’OREAL Paris Lumi True Match to give you a subtle healthy glow. You can also mix a small amount of Benefit cosmetics High Beam into your foundation to achieve a dewy radiant glow. On the eyes select, shimmers of white, silvers, and pink, for the lids only. On the lips, glossy nudes and poinsettia reds are classic winter wedding looks. Smashbox cosmetics have the best show stopping, high shine lip gloss, called Reflection High Shine. When selecting a blush color, I prefer Stila cosmeticsCustom Color blush in a soft shade pink (nothing too rosy) that will make your cheeks look flushed. Their Custom Color blush reacts with your skins pH to create your customized shade that’s perfect only for you. Bronzer is always a girl best friend but it should look effortless. Stila Cosmetics Custom Color blush in Bronze is perfect for all skin tone. To finish the look, select a full flirty mink style lashes, I’m obsessed with Urban Decay Black Velvet lashes. They will play up the romantic winter bridal makeup look. Be sure to nourish and moisturize your lips daily with lip conditioner weeks before your wedding day. Sara Happ One Luxe Balm Lip Slip is the best item for the lips, I’m sure your hubby would agree.

Now that makeup has been airbrushed on with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics the model is waiting for hair. As she’s wait patiently for hair I’m cleaning my tools so I can be ready for makeup look 2. The first look is all about the bright yummy pink lips from OCC. It’s a new lip tar call Yaoi, an obnoxious true fuchsia metallic shade. On her eyes, I sprayed her with OCC loose colour pigment in Clove, a champagne shimmer. The model was channeling the iconic and fabulous music artist Jody Watley from the 80’s with her beautiful head of natural hair. So I gave the model a very strong dark brows that Jody use to rock back in the days. I was out of my favorite Urban Decay lashes in Black Velvet so I used the Baby Doll strip lashes on her. The rest of her face is all about strong highlighting & contouring. Once hair is done, I’ll probably tweak her makeup a little more. For now it’s all about GLAMXURIOUS!!!!

I started my day earlier in Chelsea doing makeup at designer Cesar Galindo show for New York Fashion Week. I end my day on the Upper East Side doing bridal makeup at L’OREAL Paris Cathedral with Tiffany who is also a L’OREAL Paris Makeup Artist. The event was from 5-8pm and the register brides received a makeup consultant, complimentary bridal makeup application, and a goody bag from L’OREAL Paris. It’s always a treat when brides from Connecticut attend my events in New York.
For a softer eye I lined her eyes with L’OREAL Paris Infallible 24hr Eye Shadow In Eternal Black.
The L’OREAL Paris products I used to create the look. The only thing missing is the L’OREAL Paris Voluminous Power Volume 24hr mascara that the bride get to keep.

As young girls, we grew up hearing “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue.” Well, that something blue will be one of the new trends in 2012 for brides. Bright and bold Cobalt blue will be seen more at weddings in the flowers, bridesmaids’ dresses, brides’ Christian Louboutin shoes and especially stunningly resplendant eye shadows.
At a recent bridal photo shoot, I decided to play with a L’OREAL HIP DUO blue eye shadow named Forgiven that can be used in a more smoky way. Remember when wearing a strong eye, you should keep the lip color very light and I went with NYX Cosmetics Diamond Sparkle lipstick in Beige Sparkle. There are many brands offering various shades of brilliant blue eyeshadows to achieve a smoky blue eye on your wedding day. Here’s a cheat sheet to some of my favorite shades of blues that you can select from.
L’OREAL Paris HIP Eyeshadow in Forgiven
So brides, don’t stress because your something blue doesn’t have to be a family heirloom, a gift from your mom, or a hidden garter anymore. It can be glamxuriously worn down the aisle. What was your something blue on your wedding day?
