Behind The Scene: Ernest Alexander S/S 2014 Menswear During Fashion Week

My first New York Fashion Week show of this year started with doing makeup at Ernest Alexander Spring/ Summer 2014 Presentation in Soho. Just like a designer dreams of showcasing their collection at New York Fashion Week and models dream of walking at Fashion Week, us makeup artists & hair stylists share that same dream. When the key makeup artist Diana Manzanares called me to be a part of her makeup team I was elated. Hair Room Service was the team that was in charge of the makeup artists.

Beauty Blender and Evolution Man were the makeup sponsors so we had great makeup items and products to work with. Because a lot of makeup brands don’t carry darker shades being a pro makeup artists you learn to bring additional products to use so I also brought with me Stila Stay All Day Concealer because they carry darker shades. I also brought with me X Compound organic gloss, L’OREAL Paris True Match powder and my favorite absolute makeup cleansing tissue from Nicka K.

The makeup look that Diana came up with for designer Ernest Sabine, American gone abroad collection was a clean, healthy skin. She wanted the guys to have that All American boy skin; fresh & youthful. Laurent D owner of PRIVÉ salon team did an amazing job on the models hair.

How To Take Your Makeup Boldly Into Fall

By Stephanie Hepburn, The Times-Picayune on August 30, 2013 at 1:02 AM

Fall may be associated with the earthtone colors of the harvest and the turning of leaves, but fall makeup is quite the opposite: Bold is in. We’re talking teal and indigo eyes, shimmering orange cheeks and black lips. Of course, because each color is a statement, you won’t want to wear them all at once.

Mouthing off

Gone are the days when an almost black lip was associated with alternative fashion style, but pulling off the look still intimidates many. The solution, says makeup artist Robert Hudson, is to go with a sheer black like the Janiberry Lipstick by Wallett Cosmetics. Use a lip brush to apply, and skip the liner. The lipstick is designed to hydrate and provide long-term color. “For more depth, you can outline and fill in the lip with the Wallett lip pencil in Delice ($15),” Hudson says. “It has the same base color as the lipstick and will blend easily. This type of lip is a statement on its own, so don’t overpower it with too dark of an eye or too much blush.” Janiberry Lipstick, Wallett Cosmetics $19 by appointment at Robert Hudson Makeup Studio, 8206 Maple St., 504.473.8167

Blue-green with envy

Teal shadow is a must-have. Our favorite is the Single Eye Shadow in Tropic by Nars, which features a matte teal with silver particles. The shadow is designed to stay on, and will look as bold at the end of the night as it does at the beginning. It is crease-resistant and smudges well (ideal for blending into other shadows). For less intensity, lightly brush on the eyelid. For a more dramatic look, pat on the shadow with a brush, blending it up to the bottom of the brow bone. It pairs well with a neutral lip. Single Eye Shadow in Tropic, Nars $24 at Sephora, Lakeside Shopping Center, Metairie, 504.830.4567

Blushing, but not shy

A bit of blush helps to brighten your skin once the summer sun has faded. Blushes with hints of orange offer a fresh pop of color that can go with any makeup look, from daytime neutral to nighttime bold. Who’s Your Poppy is a highly pigmented orange/peachy-pink shade with a golden shimmer that goes with any skin tone. This moisturizing blush gives sheer and luminous color that makes the skin look rejuvenated, even after a long day at the office. Layer it for more intensity. Full Bloom Ultra Flush Blush in Who’s Your Poppy, Too Faced Cosmetics $21 at About Face of Mandeville, 3441 Causeway Blvd., Mandeville, 985.727.1887

The retro cat-eye look is still in full force, but added to the mix for fall is the cat-eye liner in a bold hue such as indigo or teal. Makeup artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis loves the Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Indigo by Stila Cosmetics. The striking rich-blue hue is easy to apply using its felt tip. “The felt tip helps to give the precise cat-eye,” Gomez-Duplessis says. “The great thing about this item is that it goes on smoothly, no skipping or pulling.” During the day, use it with a bare or neutral eyelid. At night, pair it with an equally bold glittery shadow. Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Indigo, Stila Cosmetics $20 at Earthsavers

Yesterday Was My Wedding Anniversary 17 Years In Counting

This is my signature perfume brand that I love to wear for my anniversary. This jewelry case was actually from a client who said my energy & personality was her inspiration for her wedding. She gave me a part of her table placement in because I value her gift I place all of my anniversary jewels in it.
Laughter is a big part of our success
Our weekend was great, both Michael and I took time off from work. We ended our actually anniversary by going to a winery, walking on a nature trail, having lunch, squeezing in 1hour to check emails then a nice dinner ending with an evening on the lake.

Girltalk with The Talented Fashion Maven Angela Simmons

My agent called me about doing a fun charity event in New Jersey for fashionista Angela Simmons. Angela Simmons & her business partner Kerri Berson put together their 1st Annual Boys & Girls Club event called GIRLTALK. Being that I always luv giving back to kids especially girls I jumped on board right away.
The event was glamxurious with; hair, makeup, nails, a fashion show ending with a concert from DIGGY. DJ Lyve kept everyone dancing all day, throwing in Angela & Kerri  favorite song “GIRLS” by Beyonce. I brought my 21 year old daughter Envy with me to help me do the glitter tattoo which was a hit! I was also able to give each girl a L’OREAL Paris leGloss to add to the gift bags that Henri Bendi donated.
Before this fabulous event started I got both Angela Simmons & Kerri Berson makeup ready. Here is my pinterest link of what I used on Angela to keep her makeup bronzed & youthful. I wanted her makeup to pop for all the pictures that everyone would take but used items that I would last all day as she run around with the girls, that she did. Angela did a lot of dancing, jumping rope, she even walked the runway with the girls. I’m so proud of both Angela & Kerri as I look forward to being a part of next year glam squad.

My table…glitter tattoo & L’OREAL Paris leGloss

Angela Simmons & Kerri Berson greeting the girls
Just finished doing Angela Simmons makeup

I even got in on the fun
After each girl left my table I gave them a complimentary L’OREAL Paris legloss

Essie sponsored the fun nail colors

After getting their hair, makeup, nails, and glitter tattoo the girls walked the runway

Hopefully with more practice I’ll get better so don’t be to hard on me. I do think my baby girl was proud of me because she volunteer to put together this sweet video for me.

Behind The Scene Photo Shoot With A Fashion Executive

Ramona Old Head-shot
When I was called to do makeup for Ramona Dunlap, Senior Marketing Manager for Calvin Klein I asked my agent to send me a picture so I could get an idea how to pack my kit. She explained to me that Ramona needed new head-shots because she will be doing a lot of engagements & interviews so she was in need of new pictures. When I received the above picture I was excited because she was going to be a great canvas to paint. As I looked more in more at the picture I agreed she needed new but something different. Ramona eyes and her pose spoke to me, there was a little something that I felt I could get to come out. I knew that I was going to be working with my favorite photographer Karriem Simmons in I knew the clothes were being pulled from Donna Karan so this felt like a makeover more than a photo-shoot for new head-shots. The day of the shoot Ramona was everything you can ask for in a talent. She was amazing…so here is our story.
Percy & Reed Hairspray was a must have hair item that Ramona wanted for her hair
First headshot I kept her makeup natural..Luv her Donna Karan leggings
Makeup items I used on Ramona: Inglot, L’OREAL Paris, Stila, & Smashbox
I wanted her lips to have a certain shade of pink so I did a lot of mixing . Time for more Smashbox Reflection High Shine Lipgloss
The second & third look it was about her bling bling eyes thanks to Stila cosmetics. Then I changed her lips to this gorgeous orange from L’OREAL Paris
Ramona fifth makeup look I was inspired by this fabulous dainty and exquisite Donna Karan black lace dress. When she put the dress on it reminded me of Audrey Hepburn. I remember this eye makeup that Audrey Hepburn had on so I used that image as my inspiration.
Black Lace Donna Karan dress…iDIE
My makeup inspiration for Ramona fifth look…Audrey Hepburn…I luv her
To change up the makeup I wanted a high shine rock n roll lip on Ramona.  I knew that she could handle a strong lip so I went for it.

I played with a variety of  red lipstick, lip pencils, and lip color mixed with a high shine gold lip gloss.

Getting Sigal Ratner-Arias Makeup Ready For Her Upcoming Novel

Earlier this evening I had a great time doing makeup on Sigal Ratner-Arias, she’s a Spanish Entertainment Editor at The Associated Press. Sigal needed makeup for her upcoming debut novel. The photo shoot took place at the International Center for Photography with photographer Amy Sussman who is a freelance photographer with The Associated Press.I always seem to have a few things in common with my clients. With Sigal we talked about how we both don’t look like the average Hispanic, we both have supported husband to help us build our brand and we both are picky about selecting pictures of ourselves.

I kept Sigal makeup natural because it’s for her novel. Below you will see the makeup items I used. Can’t wait to see which picture Sigal select for the novel…
