Miss My Makeup Studio & Beauty Bar

I remember the first day Tamicha Roberts (my personal assistant) and I found this storefront. It would be my second location makeup store in New Orleans. When we walked in I fell in love without taking two steps. The exposed brick walls, high ceilings, concrete floors, and large windows I knew I had to have all 2400sq ft of it. I didn’t care how much it would cost I just knew that this was going to be mine. Tamicha and I started coming up with ideas, laughing as we each would yell out something fabulous.
I had so many amazing things happen to me there. I worked on many beautiful women of New Orleans as well as celebrities and out-of-towners. I threw many parties and held my most popular in successful Friday Makeup & Martini’s days that its still popular amongst nightclub promoters in New Orleans.
My life has completely changed since August 2005. The last time I saw it I didn’t recognize it. It cost me so much heartache with insurance companies, alarm companies, entergy, etc. but I still miss it & my clientele off 600 plus women. I’ve grown as a makeup artists. been bless to work with so many people, companies, events, TV shows, fashion shows, etc.

SATURDAY…IT’S OFFICIAL

Today, I closed another chapter in my life. As you know I closed my makeup studio on February 28, 2009 but on Saturday April 11th everything was finally moved out of the storefront. I flirted with the idea for some time and I spoke with Pastor Fran Love about it in February before making my finally decision. I wasn’t emotional about closing because I should have done it a long time ago actually I should not have ever reopen. I say that because of my schedule, touring and living half of the time outside of New Orleans.

So, Michael and his buddy Doug went to the studio cleared it out for me. So now, I have one less thing to hold me down here. I love that my weekdays I work out of different cities and on the weekend I am here in New Orleans for weddings. I have been working a lot in Dallas, Florida, and New York. Not much in Los Angeles, the last time I was in L.A. was for The Golden Globe. But I am still in love with L.A.

Just like old time

I didn’t get shit done today as for as returning phone calls and/or emails:))) but I had a great day with my friends. So many people stop by the studio to see me and talk and network and laugh and just being silly as I tried to pretend to work and do some business. My first vistor for the day was Shontell and she was the second to last to leave me after 5pm. Then I had a real client who came in for lashes. Then Mel and Brittany arrived at the same time but not together. Brittany had a 1pm brow shaping appointment and Mel just came to hang. After everyone left Shontell and I went on a walking field trip to get lunch and that was really a field trip. Came back then the permit guy Travis stopped by from City Hall and he stayed for a minute…and of course he approved my permit:))) While Travis was still her Cherie my publicst stopped by for me to overlook some paperwork she had just completed. At 2:45 I had to run to the 2 different banks to make a deposit so Shontell held down the studio until I came back. Fred pulled up at the same time and he joined the group. Mel went to meet Xavier the guy who did my website so she can get hers up and running fast. Plus Xavier is going back to Paris on the 10th so she needed to hurry.

Everybody started heading out around 5-5:30pm cuz Iwas supposed to have a real client who was a no-show. So I returned a few calls and worked on a few wedding contracts. I have so much more paperwork left and 8 more calls to make but now I am really tired. It’s raining outside so I really don’t feel like doing anything. But, I have to pack up for my 8:30am bride on tomorrow. I just want to fall asleep right now. It’s 7:21 pm and I just feel like taking a nap.

The last 2 days I worked on location with Urban NYC and it’s been long hours. Yesterday on the shoot my son Jordan ended up being one of the kid model and MY BABY NAILED IT!!!! That was so funny how that happen.

So today was a very good day…I love my real peeps. We just laugh at each other all day cuz all of us are crazy in the head. Now that I am back for a little while I hope to be finished with the studio like next week or so. It’s a lot of work but I ain’t scared:))
