Harlem Fashion Row Brunch During New York Fashion Week

Today I’m headed to Harlem Fashion Row Shop, Brunch, and Be Social for New York Fashion Week at MIST Harlem. I’m such a fan of the CEO & Founder, Brandice Daniel. When I moved to Harlem in October 2010 Brandice and I were neighbors living one block from each other. After chatting about our passion for NYFW we got together and worked on a shoot with designers Sammy BKiki Kitty Doll. I was also introduced that day to a talented photographer name Rog Walker.

This year I was so elated to be able to attend Brandice brunch. I knew I could not miss any of her events this year. Being that last year I was not able to attend anything due to my lupus & lyme being very active.

I gathered up my Barbarella’s Annya & Kassie and we headed out to the city to Shop, Brunch, and be Social to support the designers of color in the fashion industry that would not be featured at New York Fashion Week.

Nice to be around Women In Business-BossLadies…always good to see Kim Roxie with Lamik Beauty. Luv her!

It’s always nice to see Sammy B and her fashion grow in this industry. I’ve been able to see her at different time in her career with the last time on set during Lifetime TV Show Project Runway

So we are toasting to Annya booking her first fashion show during Fashion Week. I chatted with my girl Kim from Lamik Beauty and asked if she could squeeze in Annya to do makeup at Sammy B show and Kim said Yes!

At the end of today’s successful event I was able to chat with Brandice again about getting together again like the old days…Brandice I’m here to tell you, your a Black woman who ROCKS! #HarlemsFashionRow

Lupus & Lyme Will Not Make Me Miss New York Fashion Week This Year

Last year at this time, I wasn’t healthy enough to work backstage doing makeup at New York Fashion Week. Due to being diagnosed with Lupus, Lyme disease, & RA, I was too weak to even attend events, bloggers lounges, or anything that I had to get out of bed for. This year my body is cooperating with me. I guess it missed Fashion Week as much as I had (…lol). The last few weeks I’ve been shopping my press kit letting everyone know that I’m back and able to resume creating those glamxurious faces. Here are a few pics from past Mercedes Benz Fashion Week of me working backstage doing makeup.

Today I’m at one of my favorite places in Connecticut getting my manicure & pedicure so when I step on that concrete jungle runway I look & feel my best.

To all my autoimmune warriors who’s days don’t looking promising and you’re missing your old life, I promise there’s light at the end of the scary tunnel. You will get your old life back, even if its just a little bit of it. We can conquer our new reality. We can adapt and endure the struggles, embrace and relish the good days, and most of all live, love and laugh ( a glass of wine, a spa day, and a nap  doesn’t hurt either).

Well I going to finish getting pampered. I’ll see you in the beauty pages 😉

The First Time I Got To Work With Garance Dore

Today I had to post about a throwback of a makeup assignment that I did with my girl crush, french fashion blogger, street style photographer, & fashion illustrator Garance Dore. I have been a fan of her’s for years so when I received the call that I was going to be doing her makeup I was so jubilant. You can only imagine how I felt when the publicist at L’OREAL Paris told me that I was going to be going to her home. I was going to do a practice run for her appearance to the CFDA Award Night. She was being honored that evening for what she brought to the fashion world. I knew how big this event was for her so the pressure was on.

Two days later I was back at her home getting her ready for a major event in the fashion industry. We had so much fun that evening, laughing and taking selfies, and tweeting the entire evening. To get a call back to work with her a few more times after was always a highlight. The purpose of this post is to share with you that if you put it out there what you want to do with your career it WILL happen. Your hard work will pay off, others will see your hard work & talent. Just be patient.

Harlem’s Fashion Row: Behind The Scene Photo Shoot

I had the honor to work with Brandice, CEO & Founder of Harlem’s Fashion Row on Saturday morning. A talented team of women was on set; Nia did great styling, Tracey did FAB hair, and I handle the glamxurious makeup. The models were 2 amazing upcoming designers; Kiki Kitty & Sammy B. Of course, I can’t forget about photographer Rog Walker. Enjoy some behind the scene pics I managed to capture.
