Today is for me, it’s one of my date days. I said, I DO to my husband, I said, I DO to my kids, and I say, I DO to ME!
I choose ME! I choose me every time. In order for me to be at PEACE and HAPPY, I have to have ME TIME! It can be a simple day or a luxe day. It consists of me doing things that makes me happy and smile. I’m not on a schedule, it’s just on my time what I want to do. I can be selfish, I don’t have to wait on anyone, I can eat whatever I want, and my favorite I laugh at myself. It’s fantastic!
At home collecting my thoughts 💭 and thinking about this new chapter that I’m about to start. I’m not afraid about taking my life back. My husband and my 2 adult kids, 21 & 26 year old have seen me let my health win to long. This new chapter won’t cure my Lupus, Lyme, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Asthma and High Blood Pressure but it will bring me some relief. I don’t want to be laid up in a house like a 90 year old women anymore because my body is so fragile that cold weather can literally kill me. I’m tired of doing breathing treatments, I’m tired of using 2 inhalers a day, I’m tired of taking prednisone, I’m tired of sleeping sitting up when I sleep because of my lungs. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. Today, I fight back and do what’s going to be best for me.
January & February was rough, double pneumonia, mini stroke, flu and my everyday Lupus challenges my body has been through enough. I’m ready to do right by it. Placing it in a place positive energy, better weather, great food and exotic fruits. So much to do but I promise I will share very soon. Let me just lock a few more things down. 💪🏾💜🙏🏾
What new chapters have you started this year?
Hawaii Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis has 22 years of experience in the Beauty & Entertainment industry. Brandy is located on Oahu island in Ewa Beach but you can find her working doing makeup in Kapolei. Being a top influencer & blogger don’t be surprised to see her writing beauty articles and taking selfies for her 60K followers on Instagram on the beautiful beaches in Honolulu…and YES, there are black people living in Hawaii.
Being invited to attend Fresh beauty event was such a treat and I made it just in time because I had BEAUTY 2 beauty event the same day. What a way to end my evening by being around beautiful cut fresh flowers, Veuve Clicquot, great skincare products from FRESH and the lovely and talented illustrator Blairz. To finally have my own piece of art work from Blairz I can now scratch it off my list. Blairz designed the Soy Face Cleanser limited edition bottle for FRESH and it’s fabulous! Are you #SoyObsessed
Meet Brandy, my fairy glam-mother, as I like to call her. She’s probably my most fabulous and glamorous friend – and I know a lot of fab women! Why do I want you to know her? Because she’s definitely a #GirlBoss, paving the way for women entrepreneurs in the makeup industry. She’s been in the game for years, from owning her own makeup concierge boutique in New Orleans to working with some of the most high-profile celebrities and directing top print and editorial campaigns.
I first met Brandy about two years ago and instantly, we clicked. If you have the pleasure of knowing Brandy you know her personality is magnetic, over-the-top in the best way possible, and the warmest soul. She won’t boast about all the amazing things she’s accomplished. Nope. She’d rather learn about your goals and do anything in her power to help you achieve them – to know her is truly to love her.
A few weeks ago I asked her if I could share a bit of what she’s accomplished in her amazing career and just chat about what she’s currently up to. She agreed! So we sat down, I got to play reporter and Brandy got personal about life as a professional makeup artist in Connecticut.
How did you get started in the makeup industry? Did you always know you wanted to be a makeup artist?
I started at Estée Lauder in Walt Whitman Shops in Suffolk County, New York. I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty and fashion industry. I love being around fashion, hair, and makeup. I also flirt with photography and interior designs. I feel like I love everything that has anything to doing with enhancing a look.
You just came back from New Orleans working a big assignment. Can you share a little about it?
Yes, I was working as the Key Makeup Artist for the NBA All-Star Weekend. I was in charge of bringing on a team of hair and makeup artists and working on the talent. We always get big name actors and artists that are hot on the charts. I also create makeup looks on their background dancers, the NBA dancers, the band, and sometimes the players if they have a photo shoot scheduled. It’s a lot of work because everything is live on TNT so you always need to be ready for anything.

When You’re Feeling Flirty What Perfume Do You Wear, well my scent of the month is Narciso Rodriguez Narciso. I luv any scent that celebrate sensuality. I luv the smell of musk, floral and woody all mixed together. The top note of Narciso is comprised of delicate, ultra-feminine accords of Bulgarian rose and gardenia that provide luminosity and subtlety, while the heart of musk. Narciso Rodriguez signature is warmed with amber. Then the base incorporates beautiful woody notes of cedar and vetiver that add natural elegance and strength. Now tell me that doesn’t sound sensual.
Headed to New York City this morning to do makeup on Fashion Blogger Nashelly Messina of Fabulatina. I always enjoy doing her makeup, it’s nice to have personal clients that is actually effortlessly fabulous.
The weather in the city was so beautiful that I fell in love with New York all over again. After I finished doing makeup on Nash I went for a stroll, had a nice lunch follow by a few glasses of champagne, shop for flowers at Dahlia Flowers, hung out in Grand Central market picked up dinner from Ceriello’s Of Manhattan for the finest gourmet meats.
The weirdest thing about today was that I felt amazing! Didn’t have any of my daily challenges with my lupus, lyme disease, & ra…New York, just what a girl need.
This is a fun New Year’s Eve makeup look I did 5 years ago with Tia Williams and Essence Magazine for a Shake Your Beauty segment. It’s so funny to see how my makeup artistry has grown since then. But I had such a great time at the Essence magazine office creating this glam New Year’s Eve makeup look that I had to share it with you. It’s a simple makeup look that could be done tonight especially if you luv glitter, lashes and bronzer.
