Flawless Makeup No Sweat during Essence Music Festival

Essence Magazine puts on one of the hottest music events in the US every year with The Essence Music Festival. Being a celebrity makeup artist in New Orleans and New York, keeping some of the beauty editors, music artists, and clients’ makeup flawless during July at The Essence Music Festival in New Orleans with the added humidity is always my number one priority. My challenge every year is makeup that can withstand the summer heat.  The battle women have to deal with is how to keep their makeup from melting in the summer heat (never letting the guys see us sweat).
Before heading to New Orleans, here are my must have’s to help you look glamxurious. Now you can look and feel fabulous as you walk the streets of New Orleans and party the night away at the Superdome. Don’t let The Essence Music Festival 2011 line-up be the HOTTEST thing.

New Orleans Bride Kelly McCord now Kelly Waltz was a special bride because I’ve done her makeup about 4 maybe 5 times. The day before the wedding I flew in from New York and was very excited about doing her makeup for her wedding day. Kelly selected New Orleans Top Wedding Photographer Studio Tran so she will get amazing pictures. I was very shocked when we discuss the makeup during her bridal consultation that Kelly selected dark eyes for herself and her girls. I was surprised because Kelly is so soft spoken in gentle that I thought she was going to say brown eyeshadow with a nude lip. Maybe I created a monster because she also got sexy lashes on her wedding day. Kelly knew what she wanted and I was just honor that she asked me to be her makeup artist on her wedding day. LUV HER!!!!!

Mardi Gras Fashion: Casual or Glam

@hm @uniqlousa @pixiemarketnyc @thisis_NIKI :
Happy Mardi Gras!!! As I get ready at 6am this morning  to celebrate one of my favorite holidays…well in New Orleans at least. I struggle with what I will be wearing today.
Casual or Glam is my only challenge. With New Orleans being an eclectic gumbo of fashion on Mardi Gras Day,  I want to look GLAMXURIOUS but still comfy and not ruin any of my real great bling pieces (going for coconuts…lol).
So while I sit here at my vanity barely awake, hopefully I can magically put together a few cute pieces of clothing from H&M, UNIQLO, and PIXIE MARKET.  At least I know the shoes will be straight from the 2011 NBA All Star swag courtesy of fashion stylist Niki Hall. At the end of the day, all that matters is that  my hair & makeup look great, right?

Airport Nightmare heading to Mardi Gras

leaving my New York pad heading to my New Orleans home

Eric the driver I’ve been using lately picked me up at 6:30pm to catch my 8:15pm flight to New Orleans. The weather in New York at that time was nasty, the rain was very windy so I knew that I may have a little delay. After 5 gate changes throughout the evening by 12:15am my flight finally arrives and I make it into New Orleans at 2:39 am.
So, I didn’t get to party like plan so I will make up for it on Mardi Gras Day 2011. At least the pilot was able to handle an extra trip in get us all to NOLA safe.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu interview on Tavis Smiley Report

Three 10 hour days outside working with director Jonathan Demne and Tavis Smiley was a challenge. The hours was not bad since I am use to 12 hours or more when on the L’OREAL PARIS makeup tour. It was the heat, and I still don’t understand how Tavis did it everyday wearing black linen. But I guess that’s why I was hired to be the makeup artist. I think I still have a tan from the extreme heat…lol.  It was an pleasure working with Tavis Smiley & Jonathan Demne. I always enjoy working with now Mayor of New Orleans Mitch Landrieu. Mayor Landrieu has a great personality that many may not get to see but he cracks me up every time I work with him.

Tavis Smiley was in town to film the second half of his story; New Orleans Been in the Storm Too Long. It will premiere on Wednesday July 21, 2010 at 8pm/7pm c

Big Easy Awards

Earlier this morning I had a photo shoot with Woman’s Day Magazine. But I had to make it back into New Orleans because my call time for The Big Easy Awards was for 4:30pm. Fashion stylist @jlscloset was a life saver by putting together my clothing. She had everything laid out for me at the office. The event took place at The Sugar Mill right across from the Convention Center. This was my third time working with Gambit Weekly doing hair & makeup for The Big Easy Awards. I always enjoy working with Gambit Weekly…Margo in the staff are always good to me. After a 16 hour day I was exhausted but had a great time.
