Taxes

I've been putting it off for a long time but tonight I have to do my taxes. I just been lazy, I hate doing it. I dont know how I got this gig to do both personal taxes and business taxes. After I prepare it I send it to Elaine and she files it for me. Elaine, has been with me since I started my first business. She’s one of few that I am afraid of…LOL. She’s not afraid to let me know when I am not keeping my papers right. I’ve gotten better cuz she gives me the brick when I mess up.

So, after I watch the Hills tonight I am going to flop in the bed and just lay everything out and start getting everything together. This is the best part of being by myself at the hotel it gives me time to think.

How FUN!

Take The Shine Off

written by Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

One of the most asked questions I hear every day is how to maintain a matte look.

Combination and Oily skin makeup wearers have the hardest time when it comes to wearing makeup. Within 20 mins from washing your face you notice your skin looks really dewy, and you overload your face with powder to keep the matte look. Trust me, I understand your dilemma when working long days and traveling from state to state.

Here are a few makeup items that can help you keep that matte look throughout the day.

M.A.C. Cosmetics Blot Powder: Make sure you always press it on because wiping will remove the foundation. Take the puff and turn it upside down that way you don’t add bacteria into the product. $21.00 http://www.maccosmetics.com

Smash box Anti-Shine Powder Gel: Before foundation, use this item on your T-zone. It also works well if you place it around your lip line to hold your lipstick color. $27.00 http://www.sephora.com

Cargo High Defintion Mattifier: It’s great for someone with very oily skin and enlarged pores. Gives instant gratification. Works well as a primer before applying foundation. $24.00 http://www.sephora.com

YSL Matt Touch Foundation: This is a great item because it really leaves the skin matte but not dull or dry looking. $48.00 http://www.yslbeautyus.com

BEAUTY GOODIES:SPRING

written by Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

Now that it’s officially Spring, I decided to pull up one of my favorite Spring fashion spreads that ran in the New York Times Style Magazine in Spring 2007. What I love about the makeup look in the throwback picture is that the makeup is still current. Very clean face, lightly applied blush in soft pink and bright red lips. It’s the same lipstick colors that the models walked down the catwalk wearing during NY Fashion Week 09′. So as you see, nothing really changed with spring makeup in the last two years.

And though nothing has changed with the makeup, if I could really sit on the beach eating ice cream, gourmet cakes and cookies, and still fit in a bathing suit looking like model Anja Rubik in two years, that may be hard to believe.

Enjoy the video treat below of the making of this amazing shoot by photographer Miles Aldridge.

The Electic Company on PBS

I don’t know if many of you remember the PBS television show The Electric Company( http://archive.sesameworkshop.org/tec/). The Electric Company was on the air from 1971 to 1977 and continued in reruns on PBS until 1985. Well, I received the call that they are doing a new cast and they asked me to do makeup. I will be meeting the cast on Wednesday and starting makeup on Thursday, so I will keep you posted. How cool right???I am so excited to be a part of a childhood show. I was able to find the link to the old show and WOW this is a very special assignment, I feel like crying.

Do you remember this;

From the theme song:
We’re gonna turn it on, we’re gonna bring you the power
We’re gonna light up the dark of night like the brightest day, in a whole new way
We’re gonna turn it on, we’re gonna bring you the power
We’re comin’ down the line, strong as we can be, through the courtesy
Of the Electric Company! The Electric Company! The Electric Company!

“Faster than a rolling “O”! Stronger than silent “E”! Able to leap capital “T” in a single bound! It’s a word, it’s a plan, it’s Letterman! (Joan Rivers as the narrator in “Adventures of Letterman”)

“I would if I could, but I can’t, so I won’t” (Jim Boyd as bumbling superhero Blue Beetle)

I made one of my BFF’s cry

So, I made Shontell cry over the weekend while I was home. I really didn’t mean to do it. She wrote about it so you can read about it at: http://www.misssassyandqueenb.blogspot.com titled “SURPRISED and EXTREMELY TOUCHED”.

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: Alexandra Groover A/W 09

written by Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

California designer Alexandra Groover’s (AW09/10) off scheduled fashion show at London Fashion Week makeup look was very futuristic but very minimal. The models were dressed in black garments with structured shape and voluminous silhouettes. The makeup was very dark (my favorite) with a clean face and light lip. The eye shadow the models wore down the catwalk was black with a shimmering grey eye shadow to soften the eye. The liquid foundation used was Benefits Non Fiction and a little of Moonbean mixed with the foundation to create a more pale look. Moonbean was also used on the lips and Baby Cake was added through the brows. The eyes were finished with Badgal Waterproof Eye pencil and light application of Lust Dust for a metallic shimmer.

This is more of a new take on smoky eye, more space age with a glam gothic vampire look. So let’s see when this look will make it to the USA and NYC Fashion Week.

Fillico $100.00 Bottle Water

written by Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

As you all know I have been hired to do makeup for over 100 weddings here in New Orleans and lots of Destination weddings. I have done small intimate weddings, young couples, socialites weddings, glam Hollywood weddings, political weddings and Caribbean weddings. Never, have I ever came across any bride having Fillico Beverly Hills Water.

Well Monday at the shoot for the bridal magazine I thought I saw it all when the model wore an 8 carat wedding ring for one of the looks. I was at all of this amazing rock. But yesterday, they pulled out the Fillico water that is a 750ml bottle retail at $100.00 a bottle…yeah a bottle not a case. The bottled is beautiful, crystal everywhere. Definitely my style of item. I could not concentrate on doing makeup because this $100.00 bottle of water was just blinging on set.

What I found out about the water is that it comes from an ultra luxurious line of spring water from a company called Vieluce in Osaka, Japan. It’s natural spring water from Mount Rokko in Kobe, Japan. Only 5,000 bottles are sold a month since there is a limited supply of natural spring water. The bottles are made of frosted glass, with gold paint and accented with extraordinary Swarovski crystals.

I wonder if Diddy drinks Fillico water?

Chelsea Girls Makeup Look

written by Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

The makeup look in this fashion spread is very edgy and very sexy. Just using heavy black liquid eyeliner, full strip lashes, strong dark brows, nude lips and strong contoured checks wowed me. The models all look like mannequins with their porcelain flawless skin. The big platinum bouffant hair channeling the look of the most popular movie star in the late 1950’s actress Kim Novak, in a retro themed editorial shot at New York’s own Chelsea Hotel. The “Lady Lust” story features appearances by Constance Jablonski, Sessilee Lopez, Eniko Mihalik, Fernanda Tavares, and Joshua Walter and is certain to be an editorial to remember.
