Heading To New Orleans To Do Makeup For Essence Music Festival

I can’t believe it’s Essence Music Festival 20th Anniversary! I remember it like yesterday when I was living in New Orleans and received a called from Essence Magazine. Sander Martin called me about using my makeup service for Susan Taylor.

I’ve been working doing makeup for Essence Music Festival since. I’ve only missed 3 festivals. Not to bad…as always around this time I get additional calls about booking my makeup services. I get an assistant to help with my schedule while I’m traveling or working. It get really crazy and I luv every minute of it!

I love this time of year because I get to return home, see family, friends, & peers. Plus create fab makeup looks in build new business relationships. I’ll visit a few gifting suites on my down time so I can share with my readers all the goodies I find on my BEAUTY HAPPY HOUR section.

Beauty Happy Hour: Staying Glamxurious All Day This Spring And Summer

Nowadays everyone has a busy schedule from students, to women in the service industry, corporate 500, and stay at home moms. There is one thing we all have in common. Beauty Happy Hour: Take Your Makeup From Day To Happy Hour

I must admit that every Thursday, one of the reasons I look forward to watching the fashion-forward drama TV Show Suits, is so I can see what the sharp tongued ladies on the show will be wearing. My favorite character on the show is Afro-Latina actress Gina Torres, who plays the corporate “Head Woman In Charge” character, Jessica Pearson. Costume designer for the show Jolie Andretta mixes contemporary pieces from Victoria Beckham, Burberry, Dior and Prada while flirting with vintage pieces. What I obsess about the most is how the head makeup artist Anita Gibson selects how each character’s makeup looks effortless yet polished for the work place.

Gina’s character is always flawless and sophisticated representing what a powerhouse woman should look like every day at work. Here is one of my favorite makeup looks that Gina has worn that I want to help you to achieve as a signature look at home before heading out to work. It’s a real simple look that you can get out the house within 15 mins and can take you from the office to Happy Hour.

Beauty Happy Hour: How To Achieve Zoe Saldana Look Using L’OREAL Paris Makeup

Last week when I heard the fantastic news that the beautiful and talented Afro-Latina actress Zoe Saldana was named the New International Spokesperson for L’OREAL Paris, I was overjoyed. Being that I am Afro-Latina, and a L’OREAL Paris Pro Makeup Artist it was a dream having her join the family. Growing up I didn’t have many beauty messengers that looked like me, being brown skin and spoke Spanish on television, in magazines or on movie screens.

We all know that Zoe is an effortless beauty and on this day it means so much to young afro-latina girls growing up. Being that L’OREAL Paris, a major beauty company, it feels like validation that we (Afro-Latinas) are beautiful. Congratulations on this great accomplishment. I look forward to seeing you and one day possibly doing your makeup.

So how can you achieve Zoe Saldana effoertless makeup look on her new campaign pictures and video? I selected a few products from L’OREAL Paris that Zoe could be wearing that would look great on everyone. Just remember Zoe like the minimal when it comes to her makeup.

I suggest the following makeup tip I would use if I was doing Zoe’s makeup.

1. I would start with using a damp Beauty Blender when applying the Lumi Foundation.

2. Use a fluff brush or your finger when applying your eye shadow.

3. When applying the cream blush use your middle & index finger in pat only on the apple of the cheeks for a sheer look.

4. The same with your lips, pat with your Index/Grooming finger when applying the Extraordinaire to achieve a wash makeup look.

Makeup: A Perfect Nude Lip Color This Spring From L’OREAL Paris

Yesterday I received so many compliments from women but more from black women about my nude lips. Nude lips has always been my signature shade usually year round. But I understand all the fuss, finding the right shade of a nude lipstick and lip gloss can be a challenge for all women but on black women majority shades of nudes look ashy/white on our full lips. A look that is not pretty…at all.

My personal lipstick in the past has been L’OREAL Paris Colour Riche Fairest Nude & Nude. Recently L’OREAL Paris add to their Colour Riche collection, Extraordinaire by Colour Riche. It’s creamy and silky with a lot of pigment and high shine. My new obsession is the Nude Ballet #601. Try it out it’s definitely worth it.

My day has just gotten better, so excited to hear that Zoe Saldana has joined the L’OREAL Paris family. She now join recently Blake Lively & Lea Michele as spokesmodel.

Being an Afro Latina like Zoe, and a L’OREAL Paris Pro Makeup Artist it’s great to have her aboard. A brown woman representing beauty for a major beauty brand with L’OREAL Paris is a major opportunity. So many young girls will now see that their brown skin is important and that makeup companies will have foundation shades to match their skin tone.

My Glam Day Of Beauty At Erno Laszlo Institute In Soho With Tia Williams

A fun day of doing makeup at Erno Laszlo Institute in Soho on the gorgeous Tia Williams was the only thing that could turn this cold wet day into a glam day. I’ve had the pleasure of doing Tia’s makeup numerous of times in this time she knew she wanted a pop of eye liner color.

Tia met me at my New York home based makeup studio, inside Erno Laszlo Institute where I do makeup on their members as well as my private clients. When Tia arrived I screamed because I wasn’t expecting to see her hair all big in curly…so cool! She took off her coat all nonchalant looking effortlessly like Jennifer Beals from Flashdance wearing a loose fitting white T-shirt that draped off her shoulder, black leggings and rain boots. As she settled in I started selecting colors that would compliment her. I never like to go overboard with Tia face, she look best with pretty makeup. I did know I wanted to try Drew Barrymore makeup line Flower Beauty on Tia because they recently sent me some of the products.
