Makeup: What’s Your Favorite Red Lipstick Shade This Season

Like many ladies I rarely wear red lipstick during the day. But when I do I actually like the  shade of red on my lips. I’ve played with different textures but I seem to like matte, satin high shine lipsticks.
Being that it’s fall I was inspired by all the beautiful fall leaves and the gorgeous red Japanese maple tree in front of my home that I decided to rock a cherry bomb lip.
Here are 5 of my favorite lipsticks this season. Let’s see if one of your favorites made my list.
1 .NARS Lipstick in Red Lizard (semi matte full powered red) $26.00

2. Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Berry (shine of a gloss berry red) $21.00

3. Bobbi Brown Limited Edition Lip Color in Sultry Red (soft matte bright blue red) $26.00

4. Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Cranberry (matte lip color deep red) $24.00

5.Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture SPF15 in Le Rouge (satin finish blood red) $35.00

How To Take Your Makeup Boldly Into Fall

By Stephanie Hepburn, The Times-Picayune on August 30, 2013 at 1:02 AM

Fall may be associated with the earthtone colors of the harvest and the turning of leaves, but fall makeup is quite the opposite: Bold is in. We’re talking teal and indigo eyes, shimmering orange cheeks and black lips. Of course, because each color is a statement, you won’t want to wear them all at once.

Mouthing off

Gone are the days when an almost black lip was associated with alternative fashion style, but pulling off the look still intimidates many. The solution, says makeup artist Robert Hudson, is to go with a sheer black like the Janiberry Lipstick by Wallett Cosmetics. Use a lip brush to apply, and skip the liner. The lipstick is designed to hydrate and provide long-term color. “For more depth, you can outline and fill in the lip with the Wallett lip pencil in Delice ($15),” Hudson says. “It has the same base color as the lipstick and will blend easily. This type of lip is a statement on its own, so don’t overpower it with too dark of an eye or too much blush.” Janiberry Lipstick, Wallett Cosmetics $19 by appointment at Robert Hudson Makeup Studio, 8206 Maple St., 504.473.8167

Blue-green with envy

Teal shadow is a must-have. Our favorite is the Single Eye Shadow in Tropic by Nars, which features a matte teal with silver particles. The shadow is designed to stay on, and will look as bold at the end of the night as it does at the beginning. It is crease-resistant and smudges well (ideal for blending into other shadows). For less intensity, lightly brush on the eyelid. For a more dramatic look, pat on the shadow with a brush, blending it up to the bottom of the brow bone. It pairs well with a neutral lip. Single Eye Shadow in Tropic, Nars $24 at Sephora, Lakeside Shopping Center, Metairie, 504.830.4567

Blushing, but not shy

A bit of blush helps to brighten your skin once the summer sun has faded. Blushes with hints of orange offer a fresh pop of color that can go with any makeup look, from daytime neutral to nighttime bold. Who’s Your Poppy is a highly pigmented orange/peachy-pink shade with a golden shimmer that goes with any skin tone. This moisturizing blush gives sheer and luminous color that makes the skin look rejuvenated, even after a long day at the office. Layer it for more intensity. Full Bloom Ultra Flush Blush in Who’s Your Poppy, Too Faced Cosmetics $21 at About Face of Mandeville, 3441 Causeway Blvd., Mandeville, 985.727.1887

The retro cat-eye look is still in full force, but added to the mix for fall is the cat-eye liner in a bold hue such as indigo or teal. Makeup artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis loves the Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Indigo by Stila Cosmetics. The striking rich-blue hue is easy to apply using its felt tip. “The felt tip helps to give the precise cat-eye,” Gomez-Duplessis says. “The great thing about this item is that it goes on smoothly, no skipping or pulling.” During the day, use it with a bare or neutral eyelid. At night, pair it with an equally bold glittery shadow. Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Indigo, Stila Cosmetics $20 at Earthsavers

Makeup: Get Tangerine Orange This Spring

Makeup by Connecticut Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis
It’s definitely spring time and I am starting to retire some of my winter clothes, scarves, and boots. I am excited about wearing a pop of color, and this spring my palette will consist of beautifully ostentatious oranges.

During New York Fashion Week Fall 2012, designers like Nanette LeporeMonique LhuillierTracy ReeseAnna Sui, and Michael Kors, all flirted with shades of bright orange on the runway with their collection, makeup, clothes, and even nails. Just last week, I was a guest makeup artist at the Sephora stores in Greenwich and Danbury, the store was hosting a high end limited collection called Tangerine Tango.

Bold tangerine lip colors will not be the only choice this spring, as there will be lots of yummy orange lip shades for you to choose from. You can select a sheer lip, a stain lip, or a strong bold lip color. If you’re not ready to add it to your lips then make sure to add this delicious color to your wardrobe or your nails.

Get The NARS Earthy Smoky Look

written by Makeup Artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

On the runways, makeup artists traded in the usual black for softer shades like brown, teal, and gray, for a rich, smoldering look that perfectly matches edgy-classic fashions. NARS created this earthy smoky look that is easy to do. This look can be great for a day or evening look.

For a smoldering combo of sultry browns, apply copper shadow to the lids, the inner corners, and at the base of the lower lash lines. Follow with a twig-tone shadow in the creases, blended up towards the brow bones using a smudge brush.

TRY NARS DUO EYESHADOW in Isolde (frosted ginger/ shimmering copper) or NARS SINGLE EYE SHADOW in Fez (velvety cocoa)

Use a nude pink blush to bring out bone structure, brushing the color just beneath the cheekbones. The low-key shade will give the face color, without overpowering the eyes. Highlight temples with a sheer, golden shade of blush or highlighter.

TRY NARS Blush Dolce Vita or NARS Blush Albatross

Prime lips with a vitamin-enriched lip treatment and line them with a nude liner, blending the color towards the center of the lips. Finish with a layer of gloss in a shiny shade of pinky-nude.

TRY NARS Lip liner Pencil Jilted Lover and NARS Lip Gloss Female Trouble

BEAUTY SPARK: Blue Eye Shadow

Light blue eye shadow was the most popular eye shadow color in the “70’s and 80’s”. Back then, it was applied like a little kid painting with numbers. So much so, that it scared so many women today away from the color. But now there are so many different shades of blue, that this spring you can find many shades you will love to wear.

A transparent green-blue eye shadow would work for blondes, while fair-skin brunettes should use a shimmery blue-purple. A navy or icy silver-blue eye shadow will look amazing with a brown/olive skin tone. I love to use brighter blue eye shadow on darker skin, I find the pigments of the colors show up so much better.

When you accent vibrant colors with a kohl liner or a liquid black liner it makes the eye shadow color pop and the liner define the eyes giving them shape.

My favorite four blue eye shadows to use are:

L’Oreal HIP Cream Eyeliner in Midnight Blue

Nars Eye Shadow Night Flight

Ulta Eye Shadow Blue Velvet

Sephora Chrome Mono Eye Shadow Teal Turquoise
