Enjoying My Belgian Waffle From Aloha Gelato in Hawaii

img_4461Since moving to Hawaii I have always been looking for one of my favorite snacks. In New York, I would go to the Wafels & Dinges Waffle Truck, sometimes 4-5 times a week. Besides seafood, finding a place where I can get a delicious Belgian waffle and Krispy Kreme doughnuts was all I asked for living here in Hawaii.

While walking around the Ala Moana Center, I found the Aloha Gelato. They serve Gelato, Sorbet, Ice Cream, Crepe and Waffles. Everything I Like! I saw a picture of a Belgian Waffle and I got excited. I knew I just hit the jackpot. I’m praying that they taste just as good as the ones I use to get in New York. I order the works, I got Nutella, caramel and chocolate sauce, strawberries and I asked for whipped cream but they forgot to add it. They offer a small scoop of ice cream, that’s different but definitely a great idea. My only suggestions is that they warm the waffle so it helps to melt the sauces, plus it taste so much better when the waffle is hot, soft and chewy.

Do you have a favorite snack that you obsess over? Please share.

The Beautiful Nu’Uanu Pali Lookout In Oahu Hawaii

img_3659Today we found a new historical gem to visit in Hawaii. It’s a beautiful landmark with the best scenic spot and panoramic views that is so breathtaking. The spot I’m speaking about is Nu’Uanu Pali Lookout. The Pali Highway is between Honolulu and Kailua so basically 30 mins from Waikiki. There’s no entry fee but you do have to pay $3 to park your car.

As we drove there the views of the lush Windward Coast the Koolau cliffs are fantastic. The gorgeous tall trees and dense forests to the lookout is unreal. To be so close that you think you can touch it but really not. This is what I dreamed of Hawaii to look like. The natural beauty of the mountains being covered by the clouds and the stone terrace is all just so gorgeous.

So the history is a violent one, this beautiful spot was once a bloody battlefield where hundreds of soldiers died with many being forced off the Pali cliffs. Because of it’s history it’s said that the Lookout receives around 90,000 visitors a day. It’s definitely a spot to visit if you’re traveling to Hawaii. It’s a quick stop to learn about especially if your a history lover. See for yourself below.

Celebrity Makeup Artist and Lifestyle Blogger Share Her First Christmas In Hawaii

img_3567Merry Christmas Everyone!!!! This was our first Christmas here in Hawaii and it couldn’t have been any better. We stayed home the entire day and my daughter and I stayed in our PJ’s all day. 3 out of 4 of us were still under the weather. Because we all work with the public we definitely picked up some type of virus. Because of my Lupus I always do around this time of year. Now that I’m working with international customers and they come to Hawaii sick wearing mask’s and shit that still doesn’t keep me from picking up something. The doctor said I had a Swollen Lymph Glands in my neck and a Viral Prodrome. I managed to do the tradition for the babies, cranberry muffins, cinnamon rolls and mimosa’s, for lunch we had seafood; crabs, crawfish and spicy potatoes. Us girls we stick to the bubbly’s and the guys like to do eggnog with brown liquor. Around 2:45pm I had to take a quick nap, my body needed more rest. While we were gifting I put the roast in the crock pot and sauteed the vegetables. Before movie time we ate dinner and snacked on a pumpkin pie while watching 2 movies.

The biggest gift my husband and I received was having our daughter fly in from Connecticut. It was definitely a treat to all be together here in Hawaii. Even though the boys, Miko and Ani are no longer with us we still put there little stockings up and we have their ashes joining the family every holiday.

The bubbly’s started to kick in so the pics stopped here (lol). I hope everyone had a lovely time with their families and friends on yesterday. I know I’m so blessed to have mine, it’s the best feeling ever. We work hard, we play hard and we love on each other hard. Merry Christmas Guys!

Wearing Entitled Beauty Makeup While Traveling Kept Getting Me Stopped

img_2775While traveling for Entitled Beautymy makeup line, I kept getting stopped by women inquiring what makeup I was wearing. I wear something from Entitled Beauty everyday but I have never received this type of response like this before. It was a proud moment to say, I’m a Co-Founder and not hype up another brand.

Today, women all over in different cities were obsessing over Entitled Beauty. This is what keeps me going hard because of the reactions on the plane, the airport, at meetings, etc. If more people could see how amazing my makeup line is they too will fall in love with it.

Let me show you what I was wearing, you got about 10 mins to spare? Maybe you’ll see something for yourself, a sibling, a friend, a co-worker who is a makeup addict like myself. So after a few glasses, I’ll be ready to fill all the orders that came in today

Thanks for watching them and I hope this Holiday Season you will give my makeup line Entitled Beauty a try. If you have anyone in your life that has Lupus, I made a purple liquid lipstick shade called, Queen B. I’m sure they would appreciate receiving Queen B, made by another Lupus Warrior. Because of my Lupus is the reason why I moved to Hawaii. And I have been doing 100% better. I took myself off the Prednisone, Meloxicam, Gabapentin and the Nebulizer.

So this Holiday Season, I have so much to be thankful for.

Do You Love Those Beautiful Store Windows At Ala Moana Center In Hawaii

img_2725-1When I was a young girl one of my favorite thing to do was to go the city to look at the department stores windows in New York. For hours, I would just put myself in the story that the Art Director was sharing with us. As I got older I found myself still flirting with that same obsessions. During Christmas seasons my family would join me walking down 5th Ave while sipping on hot chocolate admiring all the magical annual holiday windows. Each window were more spectacular than the other.

I find myself still crushing over stores windows here in Hawaii at the Ala Moana Center. This year I won’t have a White Winter Wonderland but at least I’ll get to enjoy beautiful fashion.

Over 40 And Getting My Body Right Using Boombod

img_9426
Hawaii Lifestyle Blogger Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

Now that summer is over I’m sure it sounds crazy that I now want to work on weight loss and tightening up my body.

But I live in Hawaii where the weather is beautiful year round. So, wearing a bathing suit, cute dresses and and cup up shorts is a daily thing. Looking good in clothes is very important to me. I can’t hide in big sweaters and sweat pants like I use to when I lived in Connecticut and New York. Shit, here in Oahu, everyday is summer time so I have to be fabulous…for myself.

Being older, I find it’s harder for me to lose all this stubborn weight so sometimes I need a little help, a jump start you know, so I decided to try out BOOMBOD. What is BOOMBOD? It’s a weight loss supplements that comes in a shot form…my kind of diet. The sachet contains glucomannan, a natural ingredient that’s been extracted from a tropical plant. Glucomannan is a food additive used as an emulsifier and thickener. I decided to try their 7 Day Achiever. You get a box of flavored sachet and I selected the lemon lime flavor because I love that tangy yet bitter taste.

Boombod Lime Flavor

So, here’s how it works.

Boombod sachet

You get 21 sachets, 7 Morning, 7 Afternoon, 7 Night.

Empty one sachet in a glass, I use my cute Boomboddle, while stirring really fast for 5 seconds, fill your glass with 1/4 of cold water to dissolve. Drink your shot right away cuz it will turn into a gel like base. Viola, you’re now on your way to starting to get that dream body.

Here is some details about BOOMBOD, but you can visit their site and do your own research on it. What’s important to me about ingredients may not be important to you.

I’ll definitely keep you all updated on how my body is doing with me using BOOMBOD.

Today I’m Getting These Fibroids And Polyp Tumors Removed

img_1030The Big Day is FINALLY here! If you’re a woman who have experience women health issues I’m sure you understand my excitement. If you have a love one that is going through it with health issues then I know you understand.

I arrived at The Queen’s Medical Center at 7:30am to check in for surgery. I was brought up to the 2nd floor and they got me all prepped. All of my nurses were excellent with taking care of me and keeping me calm and relaxed.

At 9:30am I was rolled in the operating room, that’s when it got real when they had me say bye to my husband and son. The room was bright and so damn cold that they had to get me 2 more warm blankets. All I remember is moving from the stretcher to the table, the doctor placing the oxygen mask  over my face and feeling the cold anesthesia medication going through the intravenous line in my arm. I didn’t like how it felt, my body started shaking and I was out. The next thing I know is they were waking me up and I was crying because I was in so much pain and I could feel the water/saline/blood discharging.  They could not give me any pain medicine until I came all the way out of sedation. I kind of remember my husband feeding me a dry ass sandwich and helping me with drinking water.

Everything went well, of course… I’m on day 3 of recovering and I’m still in pain and heavy bleeding when I bend down or walk up in down stairs. I just need to get through this this week and I can’t wait to get back to my regular routine.

If you know any woman that is going through women issues like fibroids and polyps, please encourage them to go visit a doctor so they do not suffer with heavy periods, continuous bleeding after their periods, bloating and pain. It may not sound like it’s something serious but it is.

Women we have to start taking care of each other and stop acting like another woman challenge is her complaining.

Relaxing At Home After Going Through Pre-Op To Remove Fibroids And Polyp Tumors

img_0090I’ve been through my pre-op, now I’m home just sitting here patiently waiting for the big day. I have only been coming outside after 6pm when the sun goes down. The doctors told me to stay out of the sun and because of my Lupus I have to not get a lot of sun on my body without being covered.

I never had surgery so I didn’t know what to expect at the pre-op. For me it was broken up in 2 days. The first day was blood work and urine testing.

The second day was my pre-op clearance with anesthesiologist. About 2 hours of questions asking me about my health history then they did an EKG and another urine test. My doctor went over my lab work from yesterday blood work. It’s very detailed. Because I’m anemic my blood was a little low, it was a 10.2 and she need me to get it to 11.2 before surgery. So that meant eating a lot of protein to get my iron up. So that meant no processed food which is hard for me

Then I was sent home with special instructions such as;

Do not eat or drink anything (even water or chewing gum) after midnight.

Do not take aspirin or aspirin for at least 1 week before surgery. (say what, nah)

Avoid soda and alcohol (oh lord, this is all I drink)

Avoid sun

Bathe with the special Hibiclens wash they send you home with the night before and the morning of. Use clean soft towels, do not scrub just softly wipe and pat dry.

No makeup, no nail polish just on 1 finger (this was the hard part)

Eat healthy food drink 8 glasses of water a day (this was hard cuz I don’t drink water daily)

Brush your teeth four times a day and before bed

No smoking no street drugs no vitamins and herbal supplements (didn’t pertain to me)

Try to not get a cold/flu, fever, sore throat or cough. (this is why I had to stay away from people cuz of my Lupus I pick up germs instantly)

The best part about this down time is I’m able to focus of my future. I have been working a lot on my book because this entire experience has given me a lot to write about.

img_0088

I also finished working on my blog and managed to get a nice nap with all this wonderful breezy coming through. The next time you will hear from is after the big day.

Fibroids And Polyps Are Health Issues Many Women Suffer With Including Myself

img_9869
Heading To Do A Sonohysterogram

As scary as today is I actually have been waiting for this day. It’s the last of the testing that I have to do before REMOVAL DAY!. I have been having problems all my life with my menstrual periods. Beside 7 days of heavy bleeding like a crime scene, clots and horrible pains the last 2 months have been the worst I’ve ever experienced. Right after my periods I started experiencing these ovarian rupture cyst and if you had them before you know how horribly painful they are. Because I’ve gotten them so much I know what to do and wasn’t really alarmed. But the last one in July decided to not go away. I was feeling these pains regularly. Then all of a sudden I noticed that I was looking like I was pregnant and feeling like I was going to drop at home and at work. UHM Hello, I’m 48 about to be 49 in October. So what’s going on here. This is not normal. Everyday I was praying for the insurance cards to arrive cuz as soon as it does I’m heading to the damn ER.

Well, God heard me and the cards finally arrived. I was able to get an appointment at the Pali Women’s Health Center in Kapolei. They did the typical urine test to see if I was pregnant, but I knew I wasn’t.

Then they did a pap smear test. Because of what I was experiencing they sent me to The Queen’s Medical Center to do the 2 two ultrasounds the same day. So I headed over to the hospital and they performed 2 ultrasounds, an abdominal and vaginal ultrasound. Now, I’ve had an abdominal ultrasound before when I was pregnant but never a vaginal ultrasound. So, that caught me off guard because I wasn’t ready for that shit.

img_9703
Still doing regularly activity feeling like I was going to drop any minute.

Still no relief, I went back to my regular schedule, work and being in so much pain. Self medicating, with 4 ibuprofen and a cocktail every night. 4 days later I’m now spotting for 3 days straight. I called the Pali Women’s Health Center twice to see if the received any of my results. Plus, I wanted to know if it was normal that I was experiencing spotting. Once she placed me on hold to see if they received anything I had made my mind up that I was going to go to the ER at Queen’s Medical Center West. The receptionist came back in said the results did come back and she read to me what was on the results. I heard ABNORMAL and I freaked out. Thanked her and got my black ass off the phone. Told them at work I needed to leave for the day.  I called my husband as I walked to the car and he met me outside because his job is across the street from mine.

img_0085

We went to the ER, that did the same ultrasounds, my luck and because it was the same hospital I went to 4 days ago they were able to compare them. I also had to do a CT SCAN with contrast. Because of my Lupus, I’ve done them before. That iodine that heat the body I’m not a fan of but I wanted them to do whatever they needed to do. After all the testing they gave me Morphine, Oh Lord! That shit had me so damn loopy. I don’t like feeling like that. I’m such a control freak that’s why and with Morphine I’m not in control of nada. Finally, they came back with info they found 3 large fibroid’s but wanted to do a biopsy in the morning.

img_9589

I slept liked a baby, thanks Morphine. Then in the morning the biopsy was done with a Physician that the ER doctor set up the night before. That’s when I was told they see tumor tissues but they can’t see how many and how large. Sent me home with meds and after I finished all of the meds I can have a sonohysterogram done in Honolulu. I decided to take some time off from work so that I could take these strong meds to shrink the fibroid’s. I don’t function well on meds they make me feel crazy, walking around like I belong on The Walking Dead. Especially the pain pill, oxycodone.

img_9874

Today is the day that I got to do the sonohysterogram at Kapi’olani Medical Center For Women & Children. With this test I was able to see everything on the screen above. The doctor was able to explain everything that was going on step by step. When he inserted the catheter and the saline water I wasn’t alarmed because he told me as he was doing it and I could see it above on the screen.  He saw the 3 fibroids that shrunk (THANK GOD) and he saw 2 tumors with one of them being extremely large. So now everything made sense to what I was experiencing and how my stomach was looking.

They explained that I would have some cramping and the leakage from the saline. So they give you a pad to put on. We talked about the 3.5 options on how to remove them and I already know what I want to do. But because of my Lupus, HBP and being anemic having a hysterectomy is not something he think I should do. If I could snatch them right out my body I would. But he thought I should speak with my OB/GYN to see what he think.

So, I’m sitting here patiently waiting, well I’m lying…I called him twice today and still no call back. He should have gotten my results by now, RIGHT?!

img_9894
I look like I just went through something

I’m now home and let me tell you, by 7pm I was in full pain! I did my 4 ibuprofen and a cocktail and turned over on my side and was out like a light. I’ll definitely keep you all posted on what I decide to do. Trust me, they getting removed!

If you have experienced challenges with fibroids, polyps tumors, and bad menstrual periods, please share. Your experience might help someone that’s why I always share the good and the challenging.
