Work Dinner For A New Makeup Store In Hawaii

img_7316My family and I arrived here in Hawaii on May 29th, I started working on June 11th and on June 15th the The Cosmetics Company Store opened in Hawaii. Before moving to Hawaii I was already hired and I was excited to be a part of a new store that was opening in Hawaii.

The team that I work with at The Cosmetics Company Store are the only people that I know, still. They have become my new set of associates. When you get my age (48) you don’t throw around the word friends so easy. But I have build a very good friendship with Heather. I also think two of the guys look at me as an mentor. Because the guys are 22 & 24 who love makeup and my experience of being a Celebrity Makeup Artist on the mainland for 20 plus years I have become a great mentor for them.

So when our Store Manager Heather decided to have a bonding dinner with the staff I thought it would be a nice experience to attend. We have a very small team of 8 and 2 stock guys, so it was a very intimate dinner.

Even though the staff could all be my kids except one Key Holder and the Store Manager I still wanted to attend to build a relationship with the crew. Because we are a new store we need to build a strong team early. To be the first group to open this new store in Hawaii is definitely something we should all be proud of.

Heather set up a non-mandatory dinner at Chili’s in Waikele on Sunday at 6:45pm after the store was closed. We got a chance to share stories about each other, just let loose and laugh a lot.

A great evening was had and I think the dinner has brought the team together so much more.

Friday Night At My Favorite Restaurant In Hawaii

img_7248As promised I’m going back to The Monkeypod Kitchen later tonight. After work I plan on purchasing my floppy hat from The Plantation Boutique that’s next to The Monkeypod Kitchen in the Ko’ Olina Center.

It’s just going to be my 22 year old son Jordan and myself tonight for dinner. Because we are on a tight schedule we decided to just grab dinner at the bar.

You know I really went back for their signature Mai Tai drink cuz that is one delicious drink. The honey and the pineapple foam on top is so damn sweet that you can forget your drinking a grown ass drink

I ordered a Avocado & Cucumber Salad and Jordan wanted to try their Truffle Fries. We luv us some Truffle Fries. Back in Connecticut we use to order Truffle Fries whenever we went to Terra Restaurant. I find that if I plan on drinking a lot a lot, Truffle Fries keeps me from getting shit face. So my son can’t say I never taught him anything.

About Last Night At The Monkeypod Kitchen in Hawaii

img_6997Last Night after work we decided to go out to eat. Everyone was off at 6pm, it was early enough to go home freshen up and have a family date night.  I have been wanting to try this restaurant out because I heard how great their Mai Tai’s are. Food gets me excited but a great drink gets me more excited.

A few people I’ve met shared with me that MonkeyPod Kitchen by Merriman in Ko’Olina Center would be a spot that I would like. I guess I give off a bougie vibe or something but I enjoy a great ambience when I go out to eat. The only time I don’t look for a fancy decor is when I’m going out to eat seafood (crabs, crawfish, shrimp) then I want it to be clean but comfortable so I can go in. So everyone who suggested Monkeypod Kitchen was correct. The entre Ko’Olina Center look like me, from living to shopping to eating and having drinks.

We met up with Michael Co-Workers who also was in the mood for delicious and food and great Mai-Tai’s. We sat at the bar until our table was ready. Of course I ordered what I came for, the signature Monkeypod Mai Tai. It’s old lahaina light and dark rums, lime, house-made macadamia nut orgeat, orange curracao, with their delicious honey-lilikoi foam.

Once we moved to the table I continued with the Mai Tai’s and because I was HANGRY I ordered the following; Lobster Deviled Eggs, Fish & Lobster Pasta, and All Natural CAB Ribeye Steak.

We had a great time, beautiful weather to sit out on the patio just drinking, eating, laughing and more drinking, the last table to leave for the evening. Our chariot await so off we go on our golf cart back to the house. We will definitely return to The Monkeypod Kitchen.

I Love Going To The Farmers Market In Hawaii

img_4723Aloha…I look forward to Wednesday nights at home because I don’t have to cook, ain’t that something. But it’s the truth. On Wednesday, from 4:30pm-7:00pm we are blessed to have the Farmer’s Market on the property. Many local vendors come through and they have great food, great drinks and great music.

This week I made it home just in time to partay, I got off at 6pm so I was moving fast. Ran over to put my food order in, then my drink order. I wanted those large turkey legs but that vendor didn’t come this week. My mouth was watering all week for it but that’s ok, I was able to get my hands on these delicious wings from Tasty Kreyol.

Over at The Bar with D’lish on the beach I order my new favorite drink. Betty is such a sweetheart and she’s a great mixology. My two Mai Tai had me nice the rest of the evening. Let me go enjoy my date…See Ya Bye & Love You Mean It!

img_4696

Sorry guys I went in before taking a picture. I ordered Jerk and Lemon Pepper with Plantains. OMG!!! #Delicious

I Fell In Love With The North Shore In Oahu Hawaii

img_6198-1Since we’ve been here in Oahu Hawaii, all we keep hearing about is The Northshore, so today we decided to take a trip to The North Shore to explore what all the fuss has been about. And I’m so glad we did, we found a hidden gem of gorgeousness…is that even a word (lol). But that’s what we found on The Northshore.

The drive alone was so peaceful and the beautiful trees and views of the mountains was spectacular. It has a very country vibe and energy. You know that feel where you would want to stick your barefoot out of the windows and let your toes enjoy the amazing breeze. Maybe corny but that’s how I felt. I just wanted to take off all this fancy and expensive jewelry, remove my bra, pull my hair back and just enjoy the freedom.

We drove to a town called Haleiwa, it’s the largest or one of the largest commercial spot on the North Shore of the island. It’s a popular spot for residents and tourists, definitely a lot of tourists from what we saw. Maybe because it’s still the crowd from the 4th Of July weekend. The crowd was just as thick as Luxury Row in Waikiki so I must come back on a slower day.

We saw lots of surfers and stand up paddle boarding taking place. Food trucks for days it was bumper to bumper to even get a spot so eventually we just pulled over and walked around the old plantation town. Lots of great colorful small owned shops, galleries, surf shops lined both sides of the streets. So many great treasures I saw for the house and for great gifts for everyone on the mainland. The vibe was like an old-school Volkswagens roll past tourists with custom-made boards hanging from the hatches.  We did see a restaurant called Haleiwa Beach House   that we want to check out, the menu was of my liking and the decor was ME (lol).

It’s a bohemian and chic kind of town and I was here for it and look forward to revisiting in a few weeks.

My First 4th Of July In Oahu Hawaii

img_6381I’m so excited about celebrating my first holiday here in Hawaii. At the same time it’s my first holiday without my oldest daughter. It’s normally 4 of us and today it’s only 3 of us. My 27 year old had decided to stay back in Connecticut so it’s going to be a little hard to not have her with us.

The family all agreed that we wanted to eat seafood today so earlier during the week I started looking around and asking co-workers about where I could buy seafood on the island at a reasonable price. Seafood is definitely our go to summer menu during the summer holidays.

I found a few places and compared prices before making a decision and finalizing the menu. I ended up buying the 3 packs of snow crabs clusters from Don Quijote and 15lbs of crawfish from Seafood City and a case of Corona’s beer and 3 red bags of potatoes from Safeway.

img_6246-1

I didn’t miss a beat with my seasoning, everything came out so so good. We were in that house sucking heads and crab legs. Spicy juice was just dripping down our arms and we didn’t care. Once we were able to move from all that good eating we made our way down to the beach to enjoy the festivities and to watch all of the fireworks.

d'lish 4th menu

D’lish 4th Of July menu was fantastic, those ladies never disappoint me. So, I was very excited to check out their menu today. Music was provided by DJ Dougie and Stevie Steve throughout the day. Lots of fun competitions and American ninja warrior style games started around 2pm.

The fireworks started at 9pm and we managed to catch a lot of them from different directions on the property. Thanks Kapilina Beach Homes for a safe and fun evening.

So, how was your 4th of July?

Definition of Success:

My definition of success is doing what I’m passionate about and being able to live the lifestyle that I want. I have been blessed to achieve success in my career and have the lifestyle that I want. Being an entrepreneur is hard and it’s a lot of work. You need discipline, strength and very tough skin. But success comes with sacrifice and for me that was time with my husband and kids. I missed out on a few important dates in their lives. So, I promised myself that I would always give them the best life I could give each of them every day.

Everyday that I am with them is special, so when I missed those special days it wasn’t so disappointing for them. At the end of the day, it was worth it when my kids shared with me that I was their role model not someone famous on television. They saw that my hard work was for them to live the lifestyle that they had.

Self Esteem:

Self-esteem is something that I was taught by my parents and family. They always gave me positive and encouraging words. I think women should surround themselves around people that know their worth and love how they look. The world is different now, it’s very sensitive and so is the world. You must be confident in yourself and understand that everyone is not going to embrace you. When I was growing up, I didn’t see a lot of women that looked like me on TV, magazines, and in the workplace.

My skin tone wasn’t always liked by others, but I didn’t need their approval to feel great about myself. I was already told by my loved ones and I loved what I saw when I looked in the mirror. So, if I wasn’t someone’s flavor of choice it was ok. I want girls, teens and young adults to understand that we are not always going to be someone’s flavor of choice whether it comes to looks, bodies, hair, and skin tone. And guess what, it’s ok. You need to love yourself first. Looking for love from other people to validate who you are doesn’t work. #justsaying

Dating Advice:

The advice that I would give to single women on LOVE & DATING is to enjoy yourself but respect yourself. Usually, you have already met your soulmate, he’s that friend that you’re overlooking for that bad boy. He’s that guy that is always there for you when your heart is broken. Also, date guys that are not in your community but that guys who have similar taste like you do. I can promise you that he’s not on those Apps…sorry girls.

What’s in the future:

I see for Entitled Beauty, my partner and I creating more colors and products. I see us growing and retailing not just online but in boutiques, salons, and hotels. We will become a household name!

Favorite shade of lipstick:

OMG! This is a hard question. Let’s see, my favorite shade of is lipstick is a bold purple shade called Queen B from my makeup line Entitled Beauty. It’s the color I created for us, Lupus Warriors.

So Glad The Rain Storm In Oahu Hawaii Is Over

img_5784The torrential  rain storm is over here in Oahu, Hawaii and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m sure all the beautiful trees needed it but I didn’t. I need the warm weather and the beautiful beach Hawaii is known for. Not some crazy ass rain that triggered this widespread flooding, scary thunderstorms and lighting that injured 3 people. Plus, all the rain did was leave us in Ewa Beach without power for 2 days. That’s not cute at all.

So tonight I’m going to sleep real good. I was worried that I was going to oversleep both days. I kept waking up to check my phone. Yes, I did set my alarm but I didn’t feel comfortable to realized on my phone alarm due to the fact that it had a very low battery. I also plan to love on my hair, wash and condition it real good, then pin curl and blow dry my hair so on Saturday for the “Shop & Play” at The Cosmetics Company Store I will look fabulous.

What kind of summer weather are you having?

How Hawaiian Locals End Their Sunday Evening

img_5657

After a full day of work it’s always nice to come home and enjoy a few minutes of the beach. Like so many in Hawaii after work I like to head over to the beach at home. I don’t even change into anything comfortable I just go as is.

My son Jordan met me at the beach, his office like he calls it. He spends a lot of time on the phone catching up with friends on the mainland, he make all of his personal calls at the beach and research schools for the upcoming semester.

So this is how I will end my evening, it was so needed especially my feet.
