Harlem Fashion Week kicks off New York Fashion Week 4 days earlier. The event was held at the beautiful Museum of the City of New York. Johnny and I was selected to create the makeup look for Malcolm X Legacy Collection designed by Malcolm X daughters and designer Yvonne Jewnell. I wanted the makeup look to mirror what Malcolm X was to me; BOLD, STRONG, and INFLUENTIAL. So with Entitled Beauty cosmetics I was able to create just that and the models looked amazing on the runway.

I’ve worked many fashion week shows from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NY and Miami and New York Fashion Week. But this show was very special to me for so many great reasons. Review the great time we had at Harlem Fashion Week and check out how our makeup line, Entitled Beauty cosmetics did on the runway.

Arriving to Museum Of The City Of New York…You can see in my eyes I’m going through it, a Lupus flare is coming on

I need music when I’m working so I brought with me Earbolts NUB Bluetooth Micro Stereo Speaker to keep the party going. Some of the makeup I brought with me were: NICKA K, Flowerbeauty, Laura Mercier, L’OREAL, and NYX.

This beautiful model Tiana Rhae is a perfect makeup muse for any makeup artist. Entitled Beauty cosmetics look so flawless on her. I used Entitled Beauty Spotlight Highlighters in Prentinous & Blow on her eyes & cheeks. On her lip I used our new shade, Antique Bold Liquid Lipstick.

I got to work side by side with my business partner Johnny Luoma, this was a great treat. I know you can’t tell in the picture but this was Johnny first time doing makeup at fashion week. He did a good job beating model LeAnne face.

After 30 mins of playing with Lubys beautiful face we discovered in our heart that we were long lost cousins. One of the things we have in common is our family being from Honduras. I used Entitled Beauty cosmetics Spotlight Highlighters in Seduction & Blow on her eyes and and RBF on her cheeks. On her lips I used Venice bold liquid lipstick.

This beautiful model Voss was such a PROFESSIONAL. I was drooling when I saw her, I wish I had a before picture of her flawless skin. On Voss I used Entitled Beauty cosmetics  Spotlight Highlighters in Seduction & Lavish on her eyes and cheeks. On her lips I used Mayan Chocolate.

My last model Jackie (I think) was such a treat, another flawless model who I enjoyed working on. When I saw her I knew instantly I was going to use our new lipstick shade Costa Rica on her lips. On her eyes & cheeks I used Entitled Beauty cosmetics Spotlight Highlighters in Split Tea & Lavish.

While the CEO of Harlem Fashion Week and designer Yvonne Jewnell continued working on her phone I was able to get 15 mins to do something with her makeup. I’m using Entitled Beauty cosmetics Spotlight Highlighter in Pretentious on her eyes and cheeks.

The models that Johnny & I did lined up before heading down the runway. Those bold lip shades from Entitled Beauty cosmetics came through!

The biggest highlight was seeing our work in one of my favorite publications Paper Magazine. Even though we didn’t a shout out from the writer Christopher Barnard for the beautiful makeup we created at least we can still be proud of what we did that evening. Not one time did I let my Lupus flare on that cold raining day stop me from doing what I love. I never missed a beat and that’s exactly what I did, beat those faces to perfection.

Finding Beauty At Barrister’s New Coffee Shop In Danbury

Barristers Coffee Shop 2On Friday morning, I visited a new coffee shop in Danbury called Barrister’s. I’m not a coffee person but I’m definitely a tea lover. Any new coffee shop would have a menu offering unique teas so I decided to stop in. I’m so glad that I did because Barrister’s Coffee Shop is a new gem in Downtown Danbury. Their decor gave me the feel of San Francisco meets New York. They offered a varied menu that anyone would find something tasty to eat and drink. My second order Kyle made me a tasty drink to my liking and I’m picky.

I was able to snuggle in their comfy leather chairs while enjoying my hot tea and working on beauty articles. The energy and the welcoming staff has made Barrister’s my favorite place to work from this year. The shop also has an area to work on your personal computer.

While sipping on tea, Caitlynn came by to offer samples of Kombucha tea. They offer Jasmine Green Tea and Black & White flavor. She explained to me that they offer Cross Culture Kombucha which is from Danbury’s first Kombucha brewery.

The JASMINE GREEN TEA flavor was very refreshing with a soft floral taste. The BLACK & WHITE flavor was very clean tasting.

What is Kombucha Kombucha is a delicious bubbly fermented tea that has existed for many hundreds of years. It is raw, non-alcoholic and made by fermenting sweet tea with a live kombucha culture. The culture of bacteria and yeast (known as a SCOBY) that is critical in brewing kombucha, is what transforms sweet tea into a beverage with completely different properties, and not just in taste. After fermenting, the beverage contains loads of healthy organic acids, beneficial bacteria, vitamins, antioxidants and enzymes. These works together in an adaptogenic tonic that supports nutrition absorption, digestion, liver function and detoxification, joint health, immunity, pH balance, and overall well-being.

So how does Kombucha tie in with beauty you ask, drinking kombucha can help your skin look fresh, healthy, and younger-looking. Dieting is a daily commitment to gut health and detoxification, and those are two areas that have the effect of making you feel younger as well as look your best says Ian Ceppos Head Brewer of Cross Culture Kombucha It  helps to detoxify, hydrate, and improve skin elasticity. Kombucha can improve the tone and clarity of your skin, and even help in the fight against wrinkles. Drinking 2-3 teas a day will definitely do a body good.

I’m so happy that I stopped by Barristers Coffee Shop this morning. Any help to keep me to looking effortlessly youthful and glamxurious while helping my body with my health issue; Lupus, Lyme and RA is a plus. So let’s all drink up and get healthy!

Throwback Thursday, Beauty Influencer Share Blogging Experience

img_5918
Working on my blog at Hotel Zero Degrees in Danbury

When I started my blog Sept 2007 it was because I wanted my family, friends and clients to keep up with me after Hurricane Katrina. Never did I think that others would want to read about my life on my blog, especially doing the horrible time of losing my home and my makeup studio. There have been times when I dropped the ball and wasn’t consistent with my writing because life was busy and I was trying to re-brand myself in my career so I put my writing aside. Plus, I never thought my writing was any good because I write how I speak (bad English…lol). If I knew blogging was going to take off the way that it has I would have been a full time blogger long ago. I didn’t know to keep up with my google analytics and changing over my blog from blogspot to wordpress that I would lose my numbers.

So, I got back into blogging and kept it authentic sharing about me and Inside The Life Of A Makeup Artist. As the makeup industry became popular again, my blog took off again. Everyone wanted to know what was I using on the celebrities at Sundance Film Festival, at The Golden Globes, at NBA All Star Weekend and other major assignments I was working doing makeup.

Wearing Floafers

Readers wanted to know details, what I was wearing, what I was eating, what makeup brush I was using, what skincare I put on clients, what hotel I was staying at. That can sometimes become scary, like when I had a stalker followed me while on a makeup tour. Yep, the police was called and everything. So, I shut down all of my social media platforms out of fear.  But you know me, I was like I won’t let fear stop me ( even though it did…lol),

Featured on AOL

I started back up and my blog took off again. It got to the point where I was featured on AOL as one of 15 awesome people to follow during the Golden Globes. That one feature and features like that are what keeps me going everyday with my blog. Knowing that readers wanted to follow all of my journeys from the good and the bad. I picked up new readers when I started sharing about my health with having Lupus, Lyme, and RA. I picked up new readers when I worked on an MTV Hip Hop show, I picked up new readers when I worked with Covergirl at Ipsy Gen Beauty NYC and just recently I picked up new readers working on the Bruno Mars 24K Magic Concert Special for CBS.

So on this Throwback Thursday, what from your past keeps you motivated? Thanks AOL Editors for selecting me as one of the 15 people to follow for the Golden Globes (…they are coming up again..hint hint wink wink…lol)

THE GLAM LIFE OF A MAKEUP ARTIST (LIFE, LIPSTICKS + LUPUS)

img_1258-1When your peers reach out to say they would like to feature you on their blogs and share your story to their readers it’s always an honor. Two features in one week, this time on Vine & Oak lifestyle blog. As many of you know I don’t hide my health issues so hopefully my story will give insight and inspired new peers. Read the article from Vine & Oak here.

Thanks Tiff and good luck with Vine & Oak.

I Was Featured On Everyday Health To Share My Story Of Living With Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, & Lyme

Last month I spent about an hour chatting with writer Maria Ricapito from Everyday Health. She reached out to me about featuring me on Everyday Health to share my health story of living with RA while working as a makeup artist in the industry. Usually, I’m the one who’s sharing about my health (Lupus & Lyme) on my blog and all of my other social media pages to followers who really are interested in my story. I always find people who don’t know me tell me that I inspire them, I give them hope and I show them that being diagnosed with a chronic illness isn’t a death sentence even when there are lots of days it feel that way.

Makeup artist Brandy Gomez-Duplessis is known for her beautiful handiwork.

I gave a lot of tips on how I get thought my work days by using certain products, doing little tricks, and how I manage to stay stress free on set. That’s one thing I had to learn to give up, STRESS and that’s including people. I shared with Maria my must have items to help me to maintain stress free days.

  1.  Victorinox Swiss Army
  2.  Royal and Langnickel
  3. Sally Hansen Eazy Tweezy Comfort Grip Slant Tip
  4. Coco’s Stainless Steel Slant Tip Tweezer
  5. HotHands heat warmers
  6. Biodara Immortal Mist
  7. essential oil blend from Tata Harper Skincare
  8. Bath & Body Works Stress Relief collection
  9. Floafers shoes

And if I can share one thing with someone who may be new to hearing me speak. When you start to feel like something is wrong, SOMETHING is wrong. You have to be your own advocate when visiting doctors. If you don’t feel like your doctor is not understanding you, it’s ok to find another. Get a notebook, start documenting everything. Don’t let people tell you that your to young, your depress, your stress, and any other reasons. You know your body better than anyone else. Fight for blood work and not the basic pregnancy test, diabetes test, and thyroid test.

So here’s the article, I hope you enjoy it and learned something new that can help you or a love one….Thanks Maria and the editor at Everyday Health for selecting me.

I Didn’t Let My Chronic Illness Stop Me From Starting Entitled Beauty Makeup Line

The reason why I can’t stop screaming from the mountain top about Entitled Beauty makeup line is because it’s been a year in the making. Many of the days I was home in bed having bad flares from my Lupus, Lyme & RA. My amazing business partner and I would take advantage of us communicating through technology like Face Time & Skype about colors, textures, and packaging because I wasn’t able to do face to face meetings. So this baby is very special to me and this is why I want everyone to try it, I want everyone to fall in love with it because it was made out of love. Plus, it’s mineral based so it’s all healthy for the skin and for you. My health is very important to me and after sharing about my chronic illness I have met so many other women suffering with a invisible illness like myself.  So, when talking with Johnny about wanting the makeup to be health he supported me. That’s why he’s amazing!

Working in the beauty industry for 21 years and using other makeup brands on my clients, on assignments, at fashion shows I now have my own makeup line to use. So I can’t wait to see it on everyone I now work on. My partner Johnny and I only have 10 perfectly matte lipstick shades for now but so much more lippies colors are coming with a new item in 2 weeks and by Spring 2018 we will have another item added to the line.

Today’s Dr Appointments Wasn’t A Glam One

It’s been a day and I’m so glad it’s over my body need a break. I started first by going to do a CT Scan, then off to do the allergy test on my arms and forearms, then over to the CT Sinus Center, ending my appointment doing a Intravenous (IV) infusion therapy. Unfortunately, I have to do a lot of this often, in 10 days I’ll be repeating everything except the allergy test. At least I didn’t have to give blood this week. A lot of driving around today, I’m just glad to be home. How is your Monday going?

Sunday Is My Day Of Being Fabulous

img_2245Today I’m not doing anything, I’m going to flaunt around the house like I do and just enjoying myself. Since I have no plans on leaving the house I’m going to just relax, snack, drink wine and nap. I have a busy week ahead starting with 3 appointments early tomorrow morning. And one more appointment on Tuesday but that one is going to be easy breeze. I haven’t been having any heart problems and it’s not time to do another EKG so I’ll be out in 10 mins. But as soon as I walk out of tomorrow appointment I cannot wait to take my meds for all these body pains. I was told that I couldn’t take anything for 3 days prior to my Monday appointments so I’m feeling everything so wine is definitely needed until then. How did you spend your Sunday?

Saturday Was Glam But Saturday Night Got Ugly, Auto Immune Problems

A lot of peers always see me when I post pics of myself when I’m doing well but they never understand when I tell them that by the end of the day my body shut down. It’s hard to understand how can someone look amazing then quickly is having a hard time to breathe but it’s my life about 3-4 times a week. I decided to show you how I can go from this img_1931to the videos below. I don’t know if it’s the lupus, the lyme disease, or both but it’s definitely hard on my body. This is why my new lifestyle only allows for me to do one thing and usually work win and takes all my energy that I never have time to party or meet up with girlfriends after work. Not everyone understands and it hurts but when I give in I know I will have it bad for 2-3 days. I usually don’t like to push myself because I never won’t to be able to show up for work. So if you know anyone with an auto-immune or invisible illness please be patience with them.
