Heading To New Orleans To Do Makeup For Essence Music Festival

I can’t believe it’s Essence Music Festival 20th Anniversary! I remember it like yesterday when I was living in New Orleans and received a called from Essence Magazine. Sander Martin called me about using my makeup service for Susan Taylor.
I’ve been working doing makeup for Essence Music Festival since. I’ve only missed 3 festivals. Not to bad…as always around this time I get additional calls about booking my makeup services. I get an assistant to help with my schedule while I’m traveling or working. It get really crazy and I luv every minute of it!
I love this time of year because I get to return home, see family, friends, & peers. Plus create fab makeup looks in build new business relationships. I’ll visit a few gifting suites on my down time so I can share with my readers all the goodies I find on my BEAUTY HAPPY HOUR section.
I have to go…beauty calls!!!

My Day At Essence Magazine With Greta Prince

I was at the Essence Magazine office today to do makeup on R&B singer Greta Prince, winner of Essence Magazine’s & platinum recording artist Pebbles’ R&B Star competition July 2011. I have worked with Essence Magazine & Essence Online since 2005 and I say that proudly. Last year while at Essence Music , I was asked to do makeup for the final 3 contestants (Winner Greta Prince, Ziemia Tucker, & Charnel Allen) and the host, radio personality Angela Yee Festival. So today was special to see Greta and to hear what her year has been like since winning. Celebrity Hairstylist Merilyn Mitchell did an amazing job on Greta’s hair today.
Next week Essence Online will feature all of the great things Greta has been doing this past year. Below I made a note of some of the makeup products I used on Greta today.

Lots of Makeup Talk on the last day at Essence Music Festival

Last day of The Essence Music Festival and my most busiest day but so many amazing highlights all weekend. Besides getting Donna Richardson Joyner ready and the morning at her hotel. My first beauty segment in the morning is with Essence Magazine Beauty Editor At Large Tasha Turner. This afternoon only two of the ladies from The R&B Star gets makeup. Radio personality Angela Yee from 105.1fm gets glam for her segments. In Ambush Makeover takes place in the late afternoon with Essence.com Beauty Editor Tia Williams.
By 6pm we (Hairstylist & Owner of BiBi Salon NYC Maisha Teacher) head to the hotel to eat while we get dress because we needed to get Greta Price the winner of Essence Magazine & Pebbles R&B Star performance at the Superdome. We finish up her hair and makeup inside the Saints locker room. Angela Yee gets one more makeup application for the evening and then off to party and enjoy the Essence Music Festival. Inside the Superdome we had our own section to celebrate, what a success Essence Magazine & Essence.com was this year. Now it’s time for the wrap party!!!!

New York Angela Yee from 105.1fm gets Glam

http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js This year I had a lot of new things added to my already full schedule during Essence Music Festival. Essence Magazine & Pebbles presents R&B Star was a great add on. I was selected to work with the 3 female contestants everyday and New York 105.1FM radio personality Angela Yee. Angela was the host of the R&B Star and so I got to glam her up everyday during Essence Music Festival. I used Mayawater Facial Mist on her everyday because it was so warm in New Orleans. When she came in I wanted to cool her off and refresh her skin before appyling makeup on her.

Because Angela tan was in the fading stage I decided to play up her tan by bronzing her skin. The peach jumper was such a great shade for her complexion I decided to play with a lot of peach, coral, and pink shades on her skin tone. Plus it’s a great day makeup look for Angela.

I’m surprise we got her hair and makeupdone in time. Angela is a riot…everyday we laughed so much that she had us crying. Angela defintely needs her own reality show, her one liners and celebrity gossip would keep me tuned in every week.

Ambush Makeover during Essence Music Festival

A red carpet event was my inspiration for this makeup application. I wanted Melissa to get a feel of what it was like to get a look that many celebrities have received. Read the entire story here on Essence.com

Faux Lash Tutorial at Essence Music Festival

This morning upon arriving to the Convention Center I was told by one of the producers at the Essence.com stage that a beauty segment was added to my schedule today. While setting up my makeup in the green room, my appointed runner brought up my revised schedule.
I was very thrill about working with Corynne L. Corbett, Essence Magazine Beauty Director. I shared with her last night at Essence Magazine VIP Lounge that I wanted to do something with her soon. Well, she put me to the test and added a fun lash totorial. Read about it here

Shake Your Beauty:Ambush Makeover

The first day of Essence Magazine, Essence Music Festival we did a fun Ambush Makeover. Essence.com beauty editor Tia Williams selected a young girl that was going to attend the concert with her girlfriends that evening. Hairstylist & Owner Maisha Teacher of Bibi Salon in Harlem gave her a fun and easy hairstyle with a braid on the side. Because she wanted a sexy makeup look I gave her dark eyes using midnight blue eyeshadow. I kept her blush and lips soft. A quick and easy makeup look that any girl could wear.
