BEAUTY SPARK: 70s ‘Greaser’ Look

written by Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

Forget prim and proper, these girls rocked an edgy 70s “greaser” look. Imagine Rizzo on the runway and you will have the look for the new PPQ show. Makeup Artist Sam Bryant for Lancôme and hairstylist David Bailey was inspired by a David Bailey photo of Twiggy. So they created a seventies rock slut look reminiscent of “I just left Studio 54”.

I love that Duffy used lots of hair extensions to add thickness to a side parted hair and created exaggerated plaits which covered the models. Bryant gave the models a dark eye on light glossed skin prepped with Flash Retouched concealer as a foundation. On the lids he primed it with Laque Liner in Pure Black, and blended it with a black eye shadow from an Ombre Absolue Duo compact, and finished with Hypnôse. On the lips he used very lightly-Color Fever Gloss in 212.

Now this is a look that I don’t mind seeing the edgier girls rock. It’s definitely a look that many girls can relate to and execute. Roll out of bed the next morning, throw on some ready to wear couture, and out the door look is what best describes it to me.

WOW Brandy what an honor in ATL

On Friday, I completely forgot to THANK SAM in Atlanta for wanting to interview me for his first issue of his magazine. He had one of his writer’s interview me some time back. On Friday, Sam emailed me the cover so I can finally get a sneak. I am so like a little kid in a candy store I love when clients, photographers or producers send me my work.

WOW, what a cover…I am just so honor to be sharing a page with the young BRANDY…I want a body like that. Well at least I will have both men and women in Atlanta reading or looking at my interview. But I really do appreciate that Sam wanted me to be in his first issue that is still such a complement…your awesome!

Wild n Crazy Mardi Gras 2009

As usual my morning starts off early. As I was headed to the studio to work, locals and tourists were still at the clubs partying having a great time. This is still the glam part of being a makeup artist. This morning clients were riders on Zulu…yes, the coconut throwers, black face and grass skirt wearer.

After I finish getting them ready my day of partying and having a great time begin with family in friends. This is one of many days that I try to shut off and party…hard. The entire two weeks I am always very busy getting so many ready for the balls, parties, and just parade goers. So, I don’t always get to attend with the family.

By the end of Mardi Gras I know I will be exhausted but it’s all so worth it….

Bloggers…give credit

Hey guys…when you are taking articles from my daily beauty articles make sure you are giving me credit for them on your page. I personally write these, a lot of them are written when I am at the airport, on the plane or just sitting around at work. I then finish them up with pictures, and videos later. I am flattered that you all enjoy my writing, since I was never good at it in school/college. So, to know you all have them floating on your page is nice but I would like credit for my hard work.

Thanks…..

VIDEO: M.A.C. Cosmetics Hello Kitty Ad

written by Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

I am so excited to share the M.A.C. cosmetics mini makeup movie from their Hello Kitty line. Hopefully, you haven’t seen it yet because I wanted to share it with you first. Let me warn you now, it’s not the typical or traditional beauty commercial where you will see lots of hair blowing, cool outfits, fake lashes, mascara or lip gloss floating in the air or being pushed by the hottest celebrity and/or model.

It’s so very opposite… Imagine a twisted Alice In Wonderland (fluffy in pink), The Wizard Of Oz (S&M house of horrors) meets Hello Kitty (male bondage dancers with large cat heads) and it’s 4 minutes long. Take a look and let me know what you think about it.

Downtown Lesli Brown from 102.9fm

I ended my night with my favorite client…tonightwe have the Zulu Ball in New Orleans and I am always booked all day back to back working from early up to 11pm doing eye lash extensions, makeup applications and air bush makeup. Many of you know when I am working I refuse to answer my cell phone…refuse…but for some reason I picked up my phone and baby girl was on the other end. She needed me to some how fit her in after she gets off from work. I’ve been doing DOWNTOWN LESLI BROWN makeup for a long time now. She is a radio personality on 102.9fm radio but she use to be a radio personality on 104.5fm radio before Katrina. I love working with Lesli…she has such a great face that she can wear any look I give her. I’ve done the over the top eyes…bright bold colors…to soft natural bronze looks and she looks amazing everytime. Another reason why I love her because she comes in never asking for hook-ups because she’s on the radio…she just sits in the chair in get whatever look I put on her. So I always throw in something extra. Plus, she’s C.R.A.Z.Y…she reminds me of a mini me but with more street flavor. Lesli, gives it to you straight…no chaser…she don’t speak with a lot of sugar…she is very real, very loyal, very generous…very appreciative…never play up she’s on the radio so your suppose to…and she is always professional and always on time…which means a lot to me. This night she kept me in tears as usual, just the things she say because she has that street edge…love her , love her! I just gave her a fun simple eye…see DOWNTOWN LESLI BROWN from 102.9fm for yourself… GLAM LIFE OF A MAKEUP ARTIST…IN NEW ORLEANS

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: Tibi

written by Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

Designer Tibi selected Makeup Artist Makky from M.A.C. cosmetics and Hairstylist Kevin Ryan of Rsession to create an ‘almost pop art meets eighties look’ for her Fall 2009 show. I loved the makeup and hair… this is what I love about Fashion Week.

Get this makeup look:

MAC’s new turquoise shade for fall blended with true blue MAC Eye Shadow in Electric Eel on the top lid and squared off at the ends, with a cobalt blue shade beneath the lower lash lines. BEHIND THE BEAUTY: Lela Rose

writen by Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

At the Lela Rose Fall 09 Show at Fashion Week, the makeup of choice was Stila Cosmetics. The look was very basic and natural, yet it worked on the runway. Normally, runway makeup looks are hard to imitate at home, but I think this is one you can handle on your own with the new collection by Stila.

The collection includes:

· Starlight Eye shadow- Shimmer on the eyes.

· Cranberry Lip Glaze- Gave the models lips a pouty look.

· Stila Sun Shade 01- Bronzer was used on the models cheekbones.

· Major Lash Mascara in Brown- Finish off the makeup look.

Stila Backstage with Lela Rose and Beauty.com Makeup Collection : $34.

Behind the Beauty: Kimora Lee Simmons

I was excited to see what MISS FAB Kimora Lee Simmons herself was going to come up with for her show at Fashion Week. This creative FAB girl’s inspiration was The New First Lady, Michelle Obama, for both hair and makeup. James Laliardos, the Creative Director of the makeup team, aimed for a classic beauty, keeping with what we love about Kimora…FABULOSITY!

Laliardos create a contoured face using a nude sculpting foundation and applying nude shadow into the eye crease to add definition. The lids were topped with a pinkish-gold for some sparkle and cocoa shadow on the brow bone to subtly separate the lid from the brow bone. Individual lashes were applied to make them semi-sexy on the top lashes, and black mascara in MAC Zoom Black for the bottom lash. A hint of gold glitter on the inside corner of the eye for radiance and a light coating of glitter across the lids to catch the runway lights. On the cheeks peach, pink or fuchsia blush was used depending on the model’s complexion for the most part he used MAC Pink Swoon blush at the top of the cheekbones. MAC Lip glass in Partial to Pink, a creamy lip gloss with a pale pink sheen completed the look.

Hair stylist Odie Gilbert turned up the volume by teasing the hair and pinning it in place for a WOW factor. Lots of tease spray, and curly extensions were added for extra volume.
