Catching up

I have been busy working in different cities, its really hard and exhausting. I am so far scheduled to be in New Orleans the rest of the week and next week as well for Mardi Gras. I have some clients for Mardi Gras this is why I am back home.

After, I got off last night from shooting a commercial with my favorite ad agency I get a call from a certain organization about doing their makeup for mardi gras day. They told me they could only pay $10 per person for air brush makeup and the silver glitter. I would have to start about 3am. I still have no answer still shaking my head but between Natalie, Shontell and my husband they have said more than enough for me. I think I went to bed still laughing about it.

I am working on my new blueprint for my career, its very overwhelming so many ideas so many ways to go. Its like picking the right door on a game show but its real not a game. I hope to take some dates off soon and go rent a cabin in just relax get away for a minute no phones no computer no fast pace city life just the nature and fresh nature water…water always relax me. Maybe our take the kids to the orlando condo, I am so overdue…

My blood pressure is back up. 158/116…I know, I know…I’m trying to slow down ts a lot of work. I just picked up my refill about an half hour ago. Hopefully, once I shut down the studio my pressure will get back to normal…I hope. Back to runnin, articles to write, paperwork, contracts, phone calls, packing studio, stuffing mail outs, then picking up kids, homework, finish with Jordan costume for school play tomorrow night, dinner…well tonight is family night dinner meaning something lite that the kids cook. More return calls, more paperwork, shower, then bed. Somewhere in there I'll spend time with hubby;)

Behind the Beauty at Marc Jacobs

written by Brandy Gomez-Duplessis

As many as 65 models were backstage hours before the Marc Jacobs fashion show Monday night and one thing was certain, each had a different hair look. Marc wanted to bring out the character and individuality of each girl. It was like a New York night scene. There was a strong edge to each of them with fun, wild and dramatic makeup looks…very Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Deborah Harry and Joan Jett.

It has been about 10 years since the last time François Nars, creator of Nars Cosmetics, did a fashion show and Nars enjoyed every minute of fun working with Jacobs again. Jacobs really combined many eye shadow colors… from dark smoky eyes to wild, exaggerated cat eyes, with eye shadow brushed from the outer corner of the eye, tapering into a point out across the temple and to the hairline. Think Elizabeth Taylor in her most Cleopatra-esque moment. Around some of the strong eyes were vivid colors like fuchsia, at the last minute fuchsia eye shadow was added. There were perfect red lips on powder white faces and fairy-dust-like highlights on some of the model’s cheeks. Nars favorited look personally was the smoky strong eye, because it was a more eighties inspired and eclectic look. Nars mixed in every color, including greens, cobalt blues and black, tailoring the makeup look for each model depending on what hair and outfit she wore.

Guido Palau, the Redken hairstylist used lots of hair spray and gel, also creating eighties punk rock dos, frizzed out Mohawks, twisted up dos, teased Afros, slicked-backed crops and towering beehives.

The binding concept among all the looks was that the girls would be ready to go clubbing after the show, and there was no doubt some of them would.

The Hair and Makeup How-To of Carolina Herrera, Fall 2009

The look for Carolina Herrera’s show on Monday was Beth Porter (ladylike) meets Shane McCutcheon (rough)…a look that had me head over heels in love. Makeup Artist Diane Kendal used makeup from M.A.C. Cosmetics at the show. With strict direction from Herrera herself, the designer wanted models to have a more luminous look. Kendal lined the models eyes with a nude shimmer pencil on the bottom inside of the eyelid. On the brow bone and cheeks, Kendal used a white pearlized pigment ( this technique allowed the light to pick up the shimmer when models walked down the runway). Foundation was applied very lightly, used more like a tinted moisturizer than a blemish coverup. To warm up the cheeks, Kendal used the M.A.C. Mineralize blush in peach and finished the look by using the popular “Twig” color M.A.C. lipstick and Dazzle Glass berry lip-gloss.

Working with T3, Hairstylist Orlando Pita was also given direct instructions by Herrera to style the hair as if models had rolled out of bed and done it themselves. To show off the neckline detail of her collection, Herrera instructed Pita that all hair was to sit high and simple above the neck. To achieve this look, Pita blew out hair with a T3 blow-dryer and T3’s Plump. He sprayed the hair with T3’s Renew dry conditioner and then finger-combed hair back to create a little volume with T3’s Control hairspray. The hair was tucked up and in, adding visible copper hairpins. Pita pinned small bronze flowers throughout the hair. The flowers were also used on the handbags and shoes for the show.

Lipstick Or Gadget? You Decide

Slated to hit cosmetic counters everywhere, Guerlain is introducing a lightweight, long-lasting lip plumper come April 1st. So, is this some kind of April Fools joke, or will this cosmetic gadget have evident results? The lipstick, ROUGE G de Guerlain will come in 25 shades and will contain a ruby powder, guaranteed to interact and protect from ultraviolet rays. It also contains mother-of-pearl, an agent which helps smooth and even the lip and reduce lip lines. As for the high-tech, gadget aspect of the lipstick, the metal packaging goes beyond the boundaries of sleek design and contain two mirrors to assist in application! So, spend $45.00 for a built in mirror or simply carry a compact in your purse? I guess Mother Recession will have an answer come April.

Pop Art Beauty

I love doing fun makeup looks and this is one of my favorite…POP ART…it’s easy and fun, well at least for me. I broke it down to help you get this look.
EYES

Apply Sephora Brand Buildable Cover Concealer to prep lids before applying the golden peach shade from NARS Highlighting/Bronzing Blush Duo in Hungry Heart to the upper eyelids. Next, line inside the lower lash lines with Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in White.

Use a clean mascara wand to coat lower lashes with Make Up For Ever Flash Color in White 10. Work lots of Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash mascara on to the upper lashes before applying Make Up For Ever Lashes Strip # 25026. Perfect brows with the Anastasia Highlighting Brow Kit.

CHEEKS
It’s super simple to create, layer a bright pink of Sephora Blush Me Mono Blush from the cheekbone down, concentrating the color around the apples. If you add to much color on the cheeks apply foundation over your blush to tone it down. The end result should look equal parts hot and healthy.

LIPS
Use Dior Addict Shine in Pink Lust topped off with Make Up For Ever Glossy Full Couleur in #4 for candy-coated shine.

Behind the Beauty: Ashleigh Verrier

If you’re not familiar with this 28 year old whimsical yet highly feminine designer Ashleigh Verrier, you should be. She graduated from Parsons School of Designs three years ago, and Saks Fifth Avenue bought her entire collection, plus a limited production run.

Designer Ashleigh Verrier was one of the designers that brought out the pink lips on the runway for her Spring 2009 collection. Makeup Artist Gregory Alt really focused on the models lips by using bright pink lips and pearl eye shadow…Seedy Pearl from M.A.C. Cosmetics on the lids and a small amount of teal in the center of the lid. I like Verrier’s style and most of her collection and I also really like this look for spring…check it out.

Best Of Pink And Red Lips

This season, both bright pink and red will be the lipstick colors of choice for both celebrities and on the runway.

Katy Perry, who kisses girls, has been seen wearing both looks…and I liked them.

My favorites are:

Smashbox Photo Finish-Flirty

M.A.C. Girl About Town

NYX Tribute to Marilyn

M.A.C. Russian Red

THIS WEEKS MAKEUP PICKS: Smurfette Shimmers, Calvin Klein Gives Good Lip, and Diamond Powder

Here are four new items I used this week and just wanted to share my feedback with you…

Too Faced Smurfy Quad Eye shadows $32.50

This palette is kick ass …the colors (blue, pink, taupe, and dark lavender) have so much pigments. My favorite two colors were the blue and the taupe. Don’t let the silly gimmick fool you, great for smoky looks, photo shoots and fashion shows.

Calvin Klein Delicious Pout Flavored Lip Gloss $13.00

The color I adored was Gold Frost-light gold with gold micro glitter. What I like about this lip gloss, is that it’s great on top of a lipstick; reds and pink or alone. It’s a little thick and kind of sticky but taste good.

Laura Geller Eye Rimz in Potion $26.00

If you’re looking for a versatile eye shadow this is a great one. The swirl colors-black, white and pearl are amazing on. It comes with its own brush but I really didn’t like the brush, so use your own angle or eye shadow brush.

Makeup Forever Diamond Star Powder in White Gold $24.00

You know the Victoria’s Secret and Pussycat Dolls glitter that the girls are known for worked really well this weekend at the fashion show. The bright glitter really brightens the eyes. The glitter is very fine and easy to work with.

Its only Tuesday and so much has happen

Wow, how much more can happen this week. My entire life is about to change. Nothing bad…don't want to scare you guys. Just a lot has been drop on me…INFORMATION about my career and people that has come into my life. My tears yesterday were blessings.I am so accustomed to people I know and mostly strangers call or email me and ask how can I help them with their career or how can I hook them up with jobs or celebrities. Yesterday, after all this time I have been in the entertainment industry I have never had a mentor…never. Yesterday, Angela from Essence sent me an amazing woman to my life. She helped me refocus and re-look at everything that is going on with my career. This woman was a blessing. She shared with me personal stories and how she overcame challenges after the death of a famous r&b singer. Anyway, she has placed me on a new mission and now I am going to have to regroup.

Now I know what it feels like to have amazing people in your life. She offered to help me with some things…not wanting to take my money just wanting to help me with my career. So today, I am having a private me day…cleansing and getting my thoughts together. I guess I have been preparing myself for this move for some time now. I felt it coming and honestly I was a little scared to take the leap. But the time has come. I will let you all know what's going on as every thing fall in place. If I am stranger don't get upset I just have so little time and now a lot of things to do in such short time. I will be in and out a lot of the city a lot. Will honor all booked dates don't worry still taking appointments but I just have to get in business mode. I love you guys and I will update as much as possible. I am so excited about change and where I am headed to next. Thanks Angela for telling me that I am your favorite makeup artist and wanting me to come with you to the Oscars and other gigs…it was such an ego boost. You may be getting your wish on me relocating:)))
