It’s PROM Night

I was able to get a few snap shots during my crazy day of my girls who came to get makeup for the PROM…Girl, I remember my PROM night so very well. I was cute and wore a short black fitting dress. I had a body back then they I could rock anything.

I was busy today starting out working at the studio then I had to leave to do makeup on a bride who changed location around 11pm so I knew what the day was going to be like with her. It was a bad day mostly because of the rain…and not just regular rain. The bride was a little over an hour late so I sat there and talked with her 2 aunts the entire time. Because she was very late she was the only one that I could do because I had my PROM girls.

My first young lady was on time she was 15 mins early so when I arrived she was already outside waiting on me.

My second girl Devin called that she was running late because of the bad weather there were traffic and accidents everywhere. But she finally made it and came out amazing…take a look.

Stephanie Jordan Photo Shoot

Here are a few pics of Stephanie Jordan who is an amazing Jazz Singer here in New Orleans. We just recently met when I was her makeup artist for the NBA All-Star Weekend when she sung the national anthem. Times-Picayune was doing a photo shoot on her kinda like a day in the life of Stephanie. So she set up for them to come to my studio while she was getting her makeup done so they could photographed it. They used the picture from my studio so I am so excited about that.

Advertising & Marketing

So today I needed to focus on placing ads in the local papers so I had a lot of the reps scheduled to meet with me today so that I can just knock it out all at one time. Basically, when you meet with new reps it’s like doing interviews. Cuz everybody wants to ask questions and I get the same questions asked all the time…how did u get started….why did you want to become a makeup artist…how long have u been a makeup artist….

So I understand when celebrities get mad and tired of doing press because you really do repeat the same thing over and over. Now I have all these press kits to look at to see which ones I will advertise in and not go over my budget. Some will not get my business because at the meeting they were not listening to me and you know how much I hate that. I feel like I give you a lot of homework;pics, web site, blogs, bio’s, old articles and etc to give you info about me. And after all that you suggest something totally opposite from me then I get pissed…now I have to cut you. I think I am very easy….GLAM, GAUDY, LOUD, OVER THE TOP!!!

Gambit was my favorite as usual …they ‘me…and I have a great working relationship with them. So, I just have to decide on how much I can spend with them and still do something else. The last 2 hours I returned phone calls and did some emails.

I had to hurry home to get myself some time to go home and shower and get ready for the Tanqueray Party at the CAC. My baby girl Jamielynn was suppose to come by to get makeup and lashes but because she still has so much to do for the event she didn’t have time to sneak off. I promised I will come out and support and I support my friends when I can. I had such a great time…we just needed Ms Shontell there to party with. They had a nice adult crowd and the music and food was on point. My favorite was the dessert!!! My boys stopped by after the game (CJ & CHRIS PAUL) and I introduced baby girl to Chris and STAR to CJ.

As usual I took lots of pics…PAPARRAZI in the house.

Photo shoot pics ready

Fred is fast…he is no joke to be able to have some of the pics put up already. These are a few that he sent over to me. I love them so much…see for yourself.
I’ll tell you all later about the meeting with New Orleans Black oh wait the new name is New Orleans 1st in regards to them wanting to use Fred’s pictures and not pay for them.

All Day Photo Shoot

Short and sweet tonight….I had a photo shoot today at the studio. The GLAM SQUAD(Fred-photographer, AyakaLynn-female model, Dominque-male model, Ryan-2nd photographer, and myself on makeup/hair) got together and we did the damn thing. We were suppose to have Courtney on board to do hair again but she backed out the morning of to say she had to go to church on Wednesday morning. Not everybody is hungry…and the show went on without any problems and we stayed on time for the second shoot…sweet.

Ayaka came over early so that I go do her hair. Because she wanted length for the second half of the day I had to put extensions in her hair to cover her breast since she wanted to be topless for the last scene. So after I got the hair in I started on the makeup but I really wasn’t to sure of what I wanted to do with the makeup because the guys from Jerk & Jon Couture didn’t make it in just yet with the clothing. I have never worked with them so I wasn’t sure what to expect with clothing so I was already working plan B in my head. Looking at what Ayaka brought with her and what I had in my closet at the studio. I always bring all of my bling pieces because I love BLING. The guys finally arrived and they were actually really cool and easy to work with. Some of their pieces to me is very close to ED HARDY collection with crystals. That’s the best way to descriptive it to you.

Fred arrived around 12 noon and Dominque was running a little late but we managed to stay on schedule. Ya’ll that little boy is a cutie. If you would have seen the pics that he showed us of what he use to look like in high school you would not believe that he had that kind of potential. So now when girls compliment him he don’t know how to accept it. He actually think they are fucking with him because all of his life he was so unattractive. He really did a makeover on his on self. He will make a perfect boyfriend if anyone is looking but ya’ll can’t ruin this boy…ok!!!!

We go to the park to do the shoot. Fred left before us to set up and he was so cute. He had chilled drinks for us and a changing room for the models to change in. We had to hurry cuz it looked like it was going to rain but it actually didn’t.

Baby girl is amazing when the camera comes on. I love how she can work crazy poses and not afraid to try different things. I love working with her so much.

We stop working at 3pm to head back to the studio to get ready for the second photo shoot with Ryan at 4pm. Now Ryan ran a little late so we played around a little taking silly pictures. So I took the opportunity to do some stuff for my girl Thais Mills. The models and I had taking promo pics of her bookmarks for her company. Finally, Ryan came and we were back to work. Because it was to dark and late to go on location we just did the shoot in the back of the studio. Perfect…but the bugs were out and ya’ll know I don’t do bugs well. They really freak me out. So we finished the evening after 10ish and stayed to clean up the studio and put everything back where it belong.

Can’t wait to see the finish frames but here are some of the behind the scene pics with my camera. I checked my voice messages and Courtney called around 4pm to see if we still needed her to come by to do hair…Go figure….I’m done.

BIG EASY AWARDS at HARRAH’S

Tonight guys, I will be doing makeup for The Big Easy Awards at Harrah’s Casino. The event is from 7pm-11pm. I am so excited about being a part and seeing all of the local talent. I need to decide on what I am going to be wearing. I’ll try to take pictures…and I’ll try to blog from there if not to crazy…talk later.

Makeup & Martini

Saturday night was awesome and I had such a great time with friends, supporters and also old clients that I haven’t seen since I been back. Michael was amazing as usual, talking to a lot of new clients, taking pictures making drinks….y’all know how he do. He is such a big fan!! Also, my girl Jamielynn who just came into my life last year also went all out bringing me snack trays. How sweet was that. She was like you can never have enough and she just went out for me and that’s what you call supporting. She didn’t play that game that people do you…you know when they say…”girl, why didn’t you tell me or girl, why didn’t u ask me”.

The weather was great and a lot of new people stopped by to say hi…they just wanted to meet me after hearing about me. You know me…come in…get a drink…have a good time cuz that’s what I am about. We ended up making pomegranate martini’s…they were excellent. Jamielynn suggested and my hubby made it and I just had to tweak it a little sweeter.

I was surprise at how many guys stopped by and actually like the way the store look. I feel bad that I don’t remember his name but this DA stopped by with his family and he loved the decor and my workstation. Of course, not a makeup store or spa or salon in New Orleans has the same workstation as mine so we said if anyone pops up with them we know they got the idea from me. Of course someone will copy cuz they did after I opened the beauty bar. They use to take pics from the outside and come in and bring in friends with them and take notes. Girls use to do that with lashes, pretend to be clients and have a friend try to stand by me to watch and then start doing it themselves. I hear about the stories all the time. My favorite are the ones who come in and ask me questions or calls and get angry when I call them on it. I tell people all the time don’t let all this makeup, hair and bling fool you. Y’all don’t know my mom, uncles, family and associates I use to run with. I see the bullshit or the manipulation coming before you even open your mouth. Sometimes I just play with you if I am in the mood but if I am not I’ll shut you down quick.

Overall, the evening was a success and I even had clients who wanted services. I stopped taking clients at 10ish. I was really tired and I thank everyone that came out…DUPLESSIS family, luv y’all… clients, friends, supporter… I LOVE U
GUYS!!!!!

Makeup & Martini…this weekend

I am so excited trying to get everything ready for Saturday….”MAKEUP & MARTINI” like old times. You know I wasn’t going to do anything big and flashy for the opening just staying low key. But I just recently was told about “MOET ON MAGAZINE” event that will take place on my street. So I figure I needed to get my black ass moving in start getting the studio together. If women were going to be on this street that evening of course they were going to stop in. Women have been doing that now and I am not finished putting things in, haven’t gotten my makeup order in yet. It’s been a delay at the plant. Pictures are not up on the wall, my vinyl lettering are not up yet…so I can go on and on…but women have been seeing me in here and have been knocking on the glass wanting to come in. That means Saturday evening is going to be worst. So now I am getting a little crazy. I really just wanted this to be a more relax opening you know.

This weekend was suppose to be more about my son…me celebrating with him. Yesterday, we get a call from his school that Jordan has been tested as a gifted student in the arts. Now this is a VERY BIG deal for me. Because when I was a kid my parents didn’t get me, they didn’t know what to do with me. Understand, they are immigrants from Honduras so all they wanted was for me to go to college and get a degree and have a office job and my name on the door and getting insurance. Back then they didn’t get all this fashion, hair and makeup stuff. I remember when this guy came to our house from the school of arts and offer me a full scholarship and board my parents turned it down. I was so crushed and they never supported what my love and talent was. To this day they care less about all of this. Anyway, I got so excited and his score was extremely high like on one test he scored a 14 out of a 15. So he missed 1 thing and the shading department. But with practice in time he will do better. So they would like to have him come out next month to this school for testing. So I had to contact L’Oreal/tour manager this morning to let her know that I have to miss the last day of the tour but I have not heard back just yet from her. I am sure they will understand. This is an opportunity that I cannot allow him to miss.

So I wanted to do a dinner with him on Saturday but I guess I can move it to Friday or Sunday. I am so extremely proud of him. He love to sketch and make things at home so I guess it’s in his blood.

Saturday night…I’ll have two things to celebrate. I will have “MAKEUP & MARTINI” from 5:30pm and stop around 9:00pm nothing big just a little toast to reopening you know. Just a few people stopping in and out getting services and mingling is all we will be doing so if you girls want to stop by…not a problem.

GLAM LIFE OF A MAKEUP ARTIST

Quick update of this week….

It is now 9:45 pm and I am finally done for the week…the evening…and can now have a me moment. I have a 6 pack of red stripe beer being chill and snacks and the kids have retired to their rooms and Miko & Ani are sleeping on the bed next to me. Michael is doing a walk through and washing the kids school clothes still.

Natalie came by the studio today she was in town for a second meeting with the staff of a very popular reality show so when she was done she stop by to say hi. I wanted to get a lot done today because this week I just want to work on the little touches. The week days are way to crazy to get things done so I had the entire family helping with something. They love it because they get to spend time with mommie and we get to do projects together.

Courtney stopped by to pick up a check from me for payment of the assignment we did this weekend at The Ritz Carlton. The client Molly B. from Dallas paid me for everything and I cut Courtney her half. I am so glad Friday & Saturday is over. I stressed my ass off about it. I was scared that Courtney wasn’t going to show because of the personal things that are going on in her life right now. This is not the first time that the hair stylist that I refer hasn’t showed up. Speaking of hair stylist MISS ERIN calls me this Saturday after not seeing her since New Years Eve at my home. She has not returned phone calls to my clients that I haved refered her to or she has not shown up to the actual assignment that she was boked for. Anyway…with Coutney having problems she has not been practing on hair styles as well as her speed, which is very important. Doing hair at a salon is different from production work, photo shoots, and weddings. But at the end she pulled it off but still have to get better at speed. So I am proud of her for not allowing her personal problem to effect her work.

I missed one of my items that were supposed to be delivered due to working on location so I now have to wait 1 more day to get it now. Like a little kid I am so excited…this item is my GLAM piece for the studio so you know I can’t wait to unwrap that box on tomorrow.

I had the one hour http://www.THEKNOT.com conference this week which was very enlighten. Because I have been so busy that I never make appointment with my rep to discuss how things are going. So, I was glad that I was able to do this one.

They sent over the L’Oreal tour dates starting in August going to October but I don’t know if I will be able to do all of those dates because I do have dates booked with weddings and other events around that time. Plus, my B-DAY is October 13 so I don’t know if I want to be on the road for that special day. Then I don’t want to be that long away from the studio especially with me just opening it. I will be in Houston for 1 week doing makeup with L’Oreal so I think this time I will shorten my trip.

I had to miss the French Quarter Festival this year but I did get to party Saturday night a little with the girls…it was Courtney birthday weekend so we took her out and popped so MOET all night. Courtney wanted to go to some new club called NV on Poydras Street…I am just glad they didn’t spell it ENVY…the way I spell my daughter name. Then she wanted to go to The Chocolate Bar on Tulane and Broad. I know I know not my cup of tea but that was her preference and because it wasn’t about me I went to celebrate. As long as I could hear Usher single “Love In the Club”…I am ok.

I had a lot of bridal consultations this week some days back 2 back. So at least my brides are keeping me busy. People are still getting married not just in New Orleans but all over the world. I have weddings in Baton Rouge, Houston, Florida, Maryland and how can I forget about my July wedding in Jamaica.

I am getting tired…I think getting up at 5:30 am on Saturday for the first wedding party in Metairie and then the second group at the Ritz then trying to go out last night like a young girl and stay out until 3ish. I think it’s all catching up with me plus my red stripe is calling me right about now.
