In case you haven’t heard yet…
You can thank the ruling on a class-action lawsuit for what could legitimately be the best thing that’s happened to you all year: Beginning on January 20 and continuing for one week, $175 million worth of free cosmetics will be doled out at beauty counters across the country while supplies last. According to an article in Business Week retail giants like Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Dillard’s, and Macy’s as well as a handful of designer brands including Lancôme, Chanel, Guerlain, and Estée Lauder broke antitrust laws and conspired to fix prices on a number of their products. To pay back customers who may have been affected by the alleged scheme, which reportedly spans almost ten years from 1994 to 2003, anyone who purchased products from these stores is entitled to receive one free item in reparation. Click here for a full list of participating stores and brands and get ready to get yours on Tuesday morning.
Also, on another note you will now find out beauty industry secret that they never wanted you to know. I get asked all the time “what do I think is the best makeup line”. I always say there the same since they are all sisters owned, the only thing that seperates them is the price so I end up hurt a lot of of women feelings. But, now with this list floatin around you will see for yourself. The women that pay $25.00 for a mascara is actually wearing a $7.00 mascara. This lawsuit could not have happen on a better day. A CHANGE HAS COME…

A day that will always be remembered for me. I wasn't able to be in D.C. but I am in Utah watching. And today my heart is in D.C. I have been watching a few times during break and will watch the entire speech in taping on the internet and at home because Michael taped it for me.
So many people speak of race but I think every citizen is responsible for themselves. President Obama can only do so much. This victory and history hopefully wakes up the young African American community especially young black male. Pull up them pants, cut them locks, go get a new wardrobe, get a job, stop putting the blame on everyone else but yourselves. Let this day be a great one without any violence and make a promise to yourself that today you will make a change.

Local couturier Harold Clarke said he’d love to see Michelle Obama in something that’s out of the box. He envisions a cobalt blue, one-shoulder gown with embroidery and a bit of sparkle. Nobody does black tie and ball gowns better than New Orleans, so we asked three local tastemakers how they would style the president-elect’s wife for Tuesday’s inaugural festivities. Here’s how they envision the belle of the balls.
Harold Clarke
Clarke, a couturier with studios in the French Quarter and downtown Covington, knows a thing or two about dressing a high-profile political spouse. He created Michelle Miller Morial’s bridal gown for her wedding to former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial.
Morial’s wedding dress was unexpected, with floral appliques in soft pastel colors.
“When I was working with her, I explained that her dress would reflect Louisiana,” he said. “It needed to have class and style that reflects the arts and culture of the city. We decided she should go with colors instead of stark white.
“That’s the same way I’m seeing Michelle Obama. She needs something that’s out of the box, that she will be remembered in.”
Clarke describes Obama’s style as “understated elegance.” For the inaugural balls, “she should look very glamorous. She’s a young first lady, and she should show herself. And we need a little glamour to pick us up these days. I’d put her in a fabulous gown, a little of the 1800s and a little bit of today.”
He envisions a cobalt blue, one-shoulder gown with embroidery and a bit of sparkle. “The one-shoulder design is youthful,” he said.
While Obama hasn’t rung up his atelier — yet — Clarke still will be represented at the inaugural festivities. He designed dresses for seven women attending the balls Tuesday night in Washington. Some of his clients are in Obama’s inner circle, though it would be inappropriate to name names, he said.
As for their dresses, all he would say is, “They’re fabulous — very high fashion.”
Suzanne Perron
Perron designs exquisite bridal, debutante and, most recently, couture Carnival queen gowns from her studio on Magazine Street.
For such once-in-a-lifetime moments, she said, “Women don’t want to be fashion forward. They want to be fashionable and somewhat timeless. And that’s how I see Michelle Obama for the inauguration.
Designer Suzanne Perron pictures Michelle Obama in a jewel tone blue because it’s patriotic and it would be really beautiful on her skin.”I want to see her in something that has a lot of movement. They’re going to be dancing all night,” said the designer, who worked for more than a decade in the New York studios of Carolina Herrera, Anna Sui and Vera Wang.
For the inaugural balls, Perron envisions Obama in a gown of satin and tulle.
“The satin conveys a strength and confidence, and the tulle softens it,” she said.
Perron studied images of Obama to try to come up with a dress that fits her style. She picked a jewel tone blue, because it’s patriotic and “it would be really beautiful on her skin.
“What you wear communicates so much. Michelle Obama has a chic, elegant, sophisticated style,” Perron said. “She presents such a polished, yet youthful, look, and so should her dress.”
Brandy Gomez-Duplessis
Gomez-Duplessis, a New Orleans makeup artist, spent last Sunday backstage at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles, touching up the faces of some of Hollywood’s most shining stars.
This week, she flies off to Utah to work behind the scenes at the Sundance Film Festival.
Needless to say, Gomez-Duplessis knows what it takes to make a face look good on camera.
“I’ve wanted to do Michelle Obama’s makeup for a long time,” said the makeup artist, who works with brides and local folks at her Magazine Street studio when she’s not attending to her celebrity clientele.
Obama “goes very light and simple with her makeup during the day. She doesn’t want to depend on makeup and be critiqued on it,” Gomez-Duplessis said. “But when she does get really dressed up, she needs a wow factor.”
For the inauguration, Obama should accent her eyes and go for a sheer gloss on her lips.
“I’d do a lip stain that’s long-wearing, since she’s going to be doing a lot of talking and greeting people,” Gomez-Duplessis said.
For the eyes, “I’d fill in her brows, make them fuller. And I would do natural-looking faux lashes by Shu Uemura in brown.”
Obama’s smooth complexion is one of her best assets. “She has amazing skin, very even. You don’t see a lot of women with such even skin,” Gomez-Duplessis said. “On her cheeks, I’d give her a little pink to brighten her up.”
The key with makeup on such a high-profile night, Gomez-Duplessis said, is to play up her features, but not take it over the top.
“Michelle Obama is soft and elegant looking,” she said. “That’s her style.”

The Times Picayune article that Susan interviewed me for last week is in Sunday paper on page 14 of the Living section. I am honored to be one the fashion glam team that she interviewed. I couldn't ask to be in better company of the two talented designers I shared the page with. You know of my relationship with MR HAROLD CLARKE. He is someone that I love and respect so much. MS IONA, I smile as I write she is one of not many that I allow to give me the brick when I use to get out of line. She just says it like it is. My connection with them is through their daughter, a very close girlfriend. AIMEE and I have been friends when I worked at MAC Cosmetics in New Orleans and being from the NYC we all ending up in NOLA. So, this morning started off very well. I wish I had time to go see them before leaving in the morning.

Some of the newest makeup shades are bold (red blush), luscious (caramel gloss)—and even bizarre (mauve everywhere). These shades that can be worn by all, below you will find a cheat sheet to help you when selecting a new color.

*For Dark Skin: L’Oreal Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Cream Shadow in Glampagne (5) and Lancome Colour Design Eye Shadow in Shimmer (6).
Caramel Gloss

Instead going straight home after working Michael and I had to go to pick up our daughter report card and then we headed over to SUCRE on Magazine Street for their bridal event.

Tonight they are doing a bash for brides and vendors. You know I enjoy SUCRE goodies so I was excited about coming over. I invited my brides because I thought they would love to see an taste their amazing cakes. Nathan, my buddy who works at SUCRE and is a pastry chef…invited Michael and I. Hilliary, his girlfriend came over after work. She is such a sweetheart. The event was not open to the public so it wasn’t like a bridal show, which was good because they had a very nice crowd.
Robin, who is a wedding planner came through. I called her at the last minute so I am glad she was able to make it. We try to meet up once a month to catch up. You have seen Robin in my pics a lot. Robin, was the wedding planner for actor Sean Patrick Thomas who was in Barbershop and Save The Last Dance.
I had a great time, champagne and wedding cake…you know I was there. Nathan sent me home with so many different wedding cakes that I know I am going to be sick. I have a bottle of MOET at home ready for me. I can’t wait to hop in the tub and enjoy the rest of the evening…i can’t remember if I have to work early…i hope not!

My morning started off with a phone interview with Times Picayune. Susan wanted the scoop on The Golden Globe and she also interviewed me about Michelle Obama. NO…I didn’t get that phone call…but I would be honor to do The First Lady Makeup. Susan wanted to know if I was her makeup artist how would I do her makeup for the big night. When she was asking me this question why did I have Kelder Summmers first lady of radio on my mind. Kelder is apart of the morning home team on old school 106.7fm radio station here in NOLA. Kelder had made a comment about Michelle on the radio and many of the listeners were upset about what she said. So, as Susan was asking me questions, I was just thinking about how many women in NOLA will be mad at me come Sunday. That’s when the article is coming out.
So after I finishes speaking with Susan I headed over to the studio to meet my Saturday bride to do lashes on her for her dinner. Then Kayla from CUE Magazine, the fashion insert inside of Gambit Weekly, called to do an interview on me about bridal makeup. I knew that CUE Magazine was doing a piece on weddings because they came out to the Austin Scarlett bridal event that I did and Greg Mills the photographer was taking mock pictures of me working. Kara told me that she would be in touch as it got closer to ask me some questions. But this was in October so I kinda forgot about it.
I received another package today from a company called “The Joy Of Soap”. They sent me 5 bars of scented soaps. So I can’t wait to try them all out. They must be reading my blogs to know how much I enjoy soaking in my bath tub. We have a nice size jacuzzi tub and I love just relaxing in it with my glass of wine and I have my candles lit and music playing in the background. My hairstylist Erin Carter always tease me about my bathroom. She calls it a sexy and grown folks bathroom. She cracks me up every time she comes over in say she is going to borrow our bathroom one day.
Tonight after I get home from the event at SUCRE’ I know what I will be doing. SUCRE’ event tonight is wedding cake and champagne…my favorite combo…

One of the most popular cult makeup lines ever, MAC Cosmetics introduced their Barbie collection in 2007. It was very successful generating $9 million dollars in retail sales. The limited edition MAC x Barbie doll was just as fabulous as any trendy girl and came with a makeup case and a glam modern look. She retailed at $239.99. Don’t get me wrong, I am a makeup addict…I love being a makeup artist but this is one MAC item I couldn’t image buying.
Now, Stila Cosmetics is now joining in on the Barbie fad. Stila Cosmetics has teamed up with America’s Beauty, Barbie for a limited edition collection of cosmetics that will be introduced Spring 2009. Stila is so honored and thrilled to be the official prestige makeup sponsor for Barbie in 2009. The partnership between Barbie and Stila is ideal as both brands represent the perfect blend of sophistication, fun and innovation. Stila will produce the collection and will also be a backstage beauty makeup sponsor for Mattel’s first Barbie runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in February. Also in February, the collaboration kicks off with limited edition Barbie™ Loves Stila offerings that will launch just in time for Barbie’s anniversary celebrations. The collection will be available at Sephora’s 5th Avenue store in New York, the international Sephora locations and at Sephora.com only. The four Barbie™ Loves Stila beauty cans collection will feature four Decades of Beauty at $40.00 and inside a look booklet describing the beauty and fashion wardrobes for each doll. In 2009, it’s still a Barbie world, and deep down we’re all Barbie girls.
