I arrived in Montego Bay, Jamaica safe…after we were suppose to take off the pilot noticed that the fuel tank was empty and noticed that the plane had a slow leak. So the maintence crew had to be brought out. As we sat on the plane watching the crew fix the leak I am on the phone text everybody letting my people know what’s going on. Just in case something happen and my plane was to blow up everybody would know. I love to keep doucments of everything so I was writing down time and names. Finally, we received info that headquarters cleared the pilot to take off. So now I am heading to Jamaica to work…world wide…global makeup artist is the new title!!! When I checked in I waited in line waiting for my turn and then when it was my turn they asked for my name and I gave them my id so I didn’t have to pronounce or spell my name for them. So the guys said he would be right back and steps away from the front desk. Within seconds he is calling me by my name Ms Gomez. He asked if I could follow him and so I’m thinking to myself, “Oh lord, what the hell is going on. What did my crazy ass do now”. So he escorts me in this room and goes, Ms Gomez I brought you in the room cuz your VIP and this room is for VIP and he offers me a glass of water and a cocktail. I almost felt out of my seat laughing so loud. Wait my silly self goes…how ya’ll know about me out here??? I had to put it on tape cuz that was to cute and I knew ya’ll would love it!!!

After checking in I noticed I had less than 30 mins to unpack, take a shower, get a 2nd cocktail, repack my bag, and call for pickup. It look like the guy from the Half Moom Resort didn’t want to leave. He was finding reason to stay a little longer in my room. Finally, I got his ass out and after tracking down my bride who was running late for her makeup appointment. She informed me that Micahel the hairstylist would meet me and we would come to her cottage together in the same cart. Then Michael was late cuz something happen to his cart and he had to find one that was working. That is why I paased on driving myself around cuz I didn’t want to mess nobody shit up. Then have to be working for the resort to pay for the damn thing.

Michael arrives and we get to Charmaine who was already dress and ready to walk out the door to go to dinner. We had about 5 mins to do hair and makeup on her. So we are both rushing trying to do makeup and hair as she is getting ready to head out of the door.

As we are trying to get her together a staff member from the resort comes to pick up her dress to steam it for tomorrow. But due to the lanaguage barrier I decided that we will just take care of it and Michael and I dealt with the dress. So Charmaine gives me her key and invited me to stay and enjoy myself and her cottage cuz she had a private beach and get drinks. Michael and I waited around for a few mintues and the guy comes back the second time and he finally takes the dress and we hitch a ride with him. I think his name was Dwayne.

I go back to my room to get my mp3 player, Micahel goes back to his room to take a nap and we met up later on the beach. I finally get myself food and a few cocktails and fall asleep on the beach. It was so quiet and the weather was perfect a very cool breeze and to hear the sound of the birds and the ocean I was out. Plus, I was tired from Essence weekend so I was really overdue.

The big day has arrived and I set up on one side and Michael is on the other. We started a little earlier than plan since more ladies were added on last night. So I didn’t get my 2 hours beach time like I wanted but I did get some time. What was perfect about my room was my door is right on the beach so I didn’t have to go far. When I step out of my door my feet touch the sand. SWEET!!!!!

My first person was the niece who was a very pretty younglady. I gave the girls what else but a bronzed look. It went perfect with everybody skin tone and of course with Harold Clarke Courtier dresses….Harold Clarke is AMAZING. I love him so much. Harold and Iona are awesome together. I know he was excited about this client cuz this is his hometown. This is where we really start working getting everybody ready but at the same time we had fun playing around talking about New Orleans in basically everything. At the end Charmaine looked like a little princess and her dress from courtier designer Harold Clarke was gorgeous.

Now it’s time to party!!!!

So yall won't be freaking out we made it to Miami safe just really late. Just wanted to let you all know cuz I will not be taking calls or text and I won't be checking voice mail. I called the wireless company and if I just have my phone on its still roaming. Any calls or emails and text that I get and still don't answer it will charge me for roaming. And you know how many emails and calls I get daily we not going to even discuss text messages. I aint A-list makeup artist yet. I'm not trying to spend what I just made. So monday evening I will call everybody back and answer all emails.

I hate that I won't have any access to anybody except michael. Just going to have a great time relaxing and drinking and drinking. What till yall see my tan!!!

I had a fun day today on the set for Mayor Nagin TV Show. Today shooting was cool. We had a really good time and we also was on time…can you believe that?? My boy Franklin Davis was on point making sure everything goes smooth. My girl, Kelder Summers from The Home Team 106.7 fm was the host and is always a pleasure to work with. I gave her semi-sexy lips. At the meeting we had during Essence week at the Mayor’s office that was something that came up. Julie, thought the lips was to sexy last time but everybody else loved it. So, I just gave her semi-sexy lips this morning. Ernest Collins came in and it was good to see him, I love talking with him and he always look out for me. Chief Warren Riley was last but he was in a rush so we had to get him in and out due to his press conference. Kelder nailed those questions and we were done. When I say fast and easy I was out of there in a few hours.

So, I was able to keep my date with my girls to go out to dinner at Cheesecake Bistro. Now, you all know I didn’t select that location, I wanted to do Houston and Shontell at the last minute decided that she wanted to do CB. So, I didn’t have a temper tantrum I said ok. I just wanted to see my girls and have a drink. But, I knew it was going to be some bullshit over there. And, I was so correct.

Since the late Al Copeland passed I feel like that place went way down so I stop going. We were invited to the private grand opening party some time back and the place was AMAZING…The menu had a lot of new dishes and the customer service was on point. But now, it’s so not appealing…the food or the service. Well, this night was horrible. I knew it as soon as I seen this large group of kids from the country still hanging around after Essence weekend. The little boys did something behind my ass when I walked in so I had to say something to him. When we got inside I explained to the host to not seat those teens by me cuz I will be very angry. Yes, I told her that. She said they will seat them on the other side. Well, the other side wasn’t far enough cuz I could still see them and hear them. Then we get our waiter who was just SLOW…service wise and mentally wise…Let me just tell you I will let you know if you are not doing your job well. And he was told. Shontell and her mom said I made him nervous, shit he had me hungry. I order mussels so that should not have taken almost 1 hour. He even took a long time with our drinks and Shontell and her mom food had to get sent back cuz he screwed that up and then when he brought it back out the serving was much smaller. He had enough nerve to ask if we wanted dessert…like I told him so we can wait another 2 hours…hell no!!! I just wanted the check so I could get out of there. When we got ready to leave I let him know again that I was not happy with him at ALL. He said to me….give me one more chance Ms Duplessis, ask for me when you come back and I’ll take care of you. What, do you think I’m stupid so you can spit in my food.

Other than that we had a great time together…we always have a great time!!!

GLAM LIFE OF A MAKEUP ARTIST

This assisgnment couldn’t come at a perfect time. My client/bride Charmaine is getting marry this weekend in Jamaica and she will be flying out her glam squad. Charmaine contacted me when she saw the press on me after working with Larry King & Brad Pitt for the Larry King Live Show. When I was done from working with them that day I received a phone call from her saying she would like to book me for her wedding. So the time is here and it couldn’t be perfectly plan. My rough schedule with Essence Music Festival has exhausted me so I need a break…cocktails…a beautiful beach…and some fresh mango’s.

So I will be gone Friday-Monday.

Can’t wait to come back with a tan!!!!

GLAM LIFE OF A MAKEUP ARTIST

I just wrapped up the interview with Stephanie from Times Picayune. She contacted me last week but because I was busy working with Essence Music Festival I had to reschedule. Stephanie was so understanding and so after getting some rest I was able to speak with her about…what else…MAKEUP.

Stephanie is doing a story on wearing makeup in the warm weather. We talked for a long time. She was a pleasure to talk with both girls from the east coast married local boys.

So that article will be out in August 08. I will keep you posted on the exact date as soon as I learn more.

GLAM LIFE OF A MAKEUP ARTIST

It’s 7:35am on Monday and Essence Music Festival for 2008 is now over for me. As, I walk down the ramp to the car leaving the Windsor Court hotel I must say I will miss my crazy week. My last person was at 6:30am and I am ready to crash for a few hours. So, any emails or phone calls I missed I will return let me just turn off my phone and shut down for a few hours.

Before leaving Angela’s room that evening she told me to just take myself off the books for next year and that they just need to book me a room at the Windsor Court because of the early hours and the going back in forth. And I spoke with Sandra at Essence she said the same thing…next year is going to be bigger and better. So that mean my schedule will be just as tight. We talked about a lot of other things that I cannot share with you just yet but definitely some great news…well for me.

It was really cool to have someone drive me around to each location…moving on up:)))And to have someone to take all of my calls was so easy. It can be stressful sometimes so it allow me to be creative all day and not worry about bookings, rescheduling, questions about services or people calling me whom I have never met telling me why I should give them my overflow of assignments. That is why I wish I had my former assistant Tamicha Roberts back in my life. But my guy held me down…he was amazing!!!

Andrea, a makeup artist from Houston came down to help me out. How sweet of her to do my hair on some down time in the green room. She’s an awesome girl cuz she got it…she understood the way I work. She had thick enough skin to get through the 3 days. She was loyal, she was excited and she was ready for the long hours and she understood the schedule changing every few hours. She never tried to out shine me she didn’t get all diva on me and try to stab me in the back, She got it and with that she will be helping me again and anyone else that I bring on will be put through a BGD Makeup Artistry Boot Camp. So Andrea my love thanks for holding me down and being there for me…luv u baby girl.

Another amazing person was Caressa Foreman whom is a loyal client since my first location. Every year she comes to me for makeup and to buy makeup. This year my schedule was so crazy with Essence that I had to move her time around and on one day I made her so late but she waited and that meant a lot for me. I was so so hurt more upset about it then she was. I LOVE MY CLIENTS….Caressa…thank you for being so understanding…LUV U

I will be working with BET Television next year for their On-Air Talent they already booked me. And my favorite new girl “TANICKA SANDERS” booked me for whom ever they will be bringing down this year. Rosci from 106th & Park was such a sweet girl. She thought it was so cute that I was in the chair getting glam by Andrea. She wanted her A-List makeup artist to look good…I guess. I used some of my makeup “Queen B” cosmetics and other stuff. She loved the two lip sparklettes colors that Kim Kardashian liked; “PIXIE & DIAMOND. She’s awesome…Avant is shy…kinds sneaky shy:)))

On Sunday night I tried to be grown and go out for a few hours. We went to one of the suites…to eat and drink:)))) When we got there Chris Rock was on stage and y’all say I say crazy shit…no CHRIS ROCK has me beat. Why Darren was in there trying to be seen??? Wait Michael goes why he keeps looking over here:))))) We left after MJB did about 5 songs. I was hurtin trying to be cute in there.

So much more to tell you all but I have to crash for now.

I know your trying to figure out how in the hell is she able to blog with that crazy schedule. I'm big time… But I have a driver this week that's how come. I have been up since 3:05 am and its now 11:15am and honestly I am hurtin. I done makeup at the Windsor Court hotel been to 106.7 fm radio to talk about makeup and do makeup on the home team and yes even the guys. Back to Windsor Court and now I am headed to the Mayors office at city hall. I feel like I've been a bad girl going to get fussed at but the meeting is about the new show. Then about 5-6 more applications. I had one red bull since I been up. Well gotta go.

On July 3rd I was invited to come on Old School 106.7fm radio with the home team(LBJ, Kelder, Jinky Ashey& Big Abe) to discuss the makeup Do’s & Don’t during Essence Music Festival Weekend. Because I have been on the show in the past about 5 years ago and do have a relationship with LBJ & Kelder. I knew that this would be funny. I was able to go on the show after working with Angela Burt Murray and Miki Taylor from Essence Magazine because I had enough of a break. After going on the show as well as doing makeup for the Home Team I was able to leave from there to go straight to City Hall to meet at the Mayor’s Office.
